Pertembungan Fatwa Di Medan Tahrir

Harakah
09 Mei 2012

Pertama, apakah kerja memasukkan sejumlah pengundi hantu (menyebabkan senarai pendaftaran pemilih jadi kotor)merupakah kerja maaruf?

Some of the facebook fan page owner struggle to get more like at their facebook fan page, so am I too. There are few alternative way to get more facebook likes by paying or getting facebook likes for free.

youlikehits vs

Buying Facebook likes by paying the service is much more faster, you may buy facebook likes in website like fiverr, gigbucks, tenbux, zeerk and many more, easily cost you $5 to $10 for thousand facebook likes.

While getting free likes, it will cost you some time, let me introduce you 2 website that I lately explore.

1. YouLikeHits

Upon registration for YouLikeHits, you will receive a 50 point as credit. You may use it to exchange for facebook like simply by 2 point per facebook like. Once you insufficient point, you may simply like other’s page and earn point to exchange for other’s to like your page.

youlikehits

You may claim 100 free point every 24 hours at YouLikeHits, or use other methods such as Twitter follow, Google + circles, Myspace friend, Youtube subscriber, Stumble upon follower, Digg follower and Website hits to earn more points.

Natijah Bersih 3.0 – Pilihanraya Adil Meraih Pahala

Major Protest Prompts Attacks On Journalist, Censorship And Missing Media Replaced By Civil Society

Reporters Without Borders

Reporters Without Borders condemns the use of violence against journalists during a major civil society demonstration in Kuala Lumpur on 28 April, and the censorship of foreign TV coverage of the protest. The organization is also concerned about the scant coverage that the protest received in Malaysia’s mainstream print media such as Utusan Malaysia, New Straits Times and The Star.

Called Bersih 3.0 because it was the third of its kind organized by the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (Bersih) in protest against the lack of government transparency about the next parliamentary elections, the demonstration was attended by a Reporters Without Borders representative, who witnessed the media freedom violations.

The Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ) said coverage of the protest highlighted the print media’s lack of independence. Their inadequate and inaccurate reporting contrasts with Malaysia’s rise in international media freedom rankings and the promise of more media freedom in recent amendments to the Printing Presses and Publications Act (PPPA).

The media’s attitude is all the more disturbing in the run-up to such important elections, as it shows the degree to which they are still susceptible to pressure from the government and the political parties that own them.

Protest organizers and observers

The CIJ is one of the civil society organizations in the Bersih coalition, which also includes the Malaysia Youth and Students Democratic Movement and the Bar Council. The venue for its third demonstration was to have been Independence Square (Dataran Merdeka) in the centre of Kuala Lumpur. Smaller demonstrations were organized in other cities.

Bersih’s leaders had wanted to stage a sit-in (Duduk Bantah) in Independence Square from 2 to 4 p.m. but, two days before the protest, the Kuala Lumpur city authorities obtained a court order banning them from the square. On the eve of the protest, the police took up position on the main streets leading to the square, and barbed wire and plastic street barriers were used block access. Wearing the yellow Bersih T-shirt was not, however, banned this time.

On the day, a large crowd assembled at a nearby location and set off towards the square at 1:40 pm, led by Bersih members, journalists and Bar Council observers. Clashes broke out as they neared the square. When some of the demonstrators pushed past the barricades, the riot police on the other side used their water cannon, hosing them with a mixture of water and chemical irritants of the kind used in tear gas.

Violence and arrests

Police violence, attacks on demonstrators and arrests ensued. The Bar Council’s observers described the attitude of the police as “punitive.” In a statement the next day condemning the police violence as unjustified, Bar Council vice-president Christopher Leong pointed out that the interior minister had said before the demonstration that it did not pose a security threat.

As regards violence against the media, the Bar Council statement said: “The reported attacks by the police on members of the media, both local and international, and the confiscation and/or destruction of their photographs and video recordings, speaks to police action in covering up or preventing a full and accurate record of the Bersih 3.0 rally and the responses of the police.”

Al Jazeera reporter Harry Fawcett was forced to cover the protest using his iPad’s Skype app after the police damaged his crew’s camera. Describing the scenes of violence, he reported that the police “kicked, slapped and punched” demonstrators.

The Reporters Without Borders correspondent suffered no physical attack herself, but she was prevented from accessing an elevated position from which she could have taken photos of the crowd. Bar Council members, on the other hand, reported several cases of violence, including the clubbing of a lawyer inside a police truck after his arrest. A girl received several blows to the head before being rescued by a Bar Council member.

According to the CIJ, one journalist was badly hurt, sustaining a broken rib and possible internal injuries.

Merdeka Review reporter Chen Shaua Fui told Reporters Without Borders told Reporters Without Borders she was attacked by police when she tried to take photos of two demonstrators being beaten by police officers.

“Two men in yellow T-shirts were dining in a small restaurant on Jalan tun Perak Street,” she said. “It was 7 p.m. and most of the demonstrators had already dispersed. I was on the other side of the street when I saw two policemen go up to them and begin hitting them. I pulled out my camera but I was told not to use it. When I said I was a journalist, the policemen threatened me. I entered a nearby alley and saw a similar scene. I was already holding my camera and began taking photos.

“Four policemen approached me. One insulted me. Two others tried to grab my phone and camera from me. A fourth pulled violently at my backpack. They all insulted me although, in the confusion, I don’t remember what they said. I shouted several times that I was a journalist. In response, they snatched my press ID and threw it to the ground. I asked them several times if I was arrested but they did not reply to this. I think they just wanted to teach me a lesson. I finally succeeded in getting away and had the courage to pick up my press ID. I don’t think I will file a complaint. That serves no purpose here.”

Medical personnel reported that a total of 417 arrests were made and 117 people were taken to hospital.

Scant coverage, disinformation

On the whole, the violence was widely covered and commented in the alternative media and blogs even if they did not report all of the incidents.

But the CIJ reported in apress release on 26 April that coverage of protests in the print media had fallen dramatically compared with a similar period last year. Coverage of demonstrations was meagre in the leading Malaysian newspapers, and virtually non-existent in the newspapers that support the ruling coalition.

According to the CIJ release, there has been a 60 per cent fall in coverage by The Star and the Sun, and a 97 per cent fall in coverage by Utusan Malaysia and the New Straits Times. Such coverage as there was in these two newspapers was overwhelmingly negative, the release added.

Anticipating scant coverage by the main newspapers, the Bar Council mobilized around 80 lawyers and law students to monitor the demonstration. Many of these observers reported witnessing violence, including the use of tear-gas grenades and water cannon against demonstrators who had not provoked the police.

The lack of media coverage was compounded by government disinformation and attempts to minimize the size of the protest. It is not unusual for organizers and authorities to give different turnout figures but in this case only deliberate disinformation can explain the difference. On the one hand, the organizers estimated that 250,000 people took part and the CIJ estimated 100,000. On the other, the police put the turnout at 30,000 while a government press office went to so far as to claim that only 4,000 people participated.

BBC censored

The Sarawak Report, a news website run by investigative journalist Clare Rewcastle Brown, reported that Astro Malaysia, a satellite TV service owned MEASAT Broadcast Network Systems, censored the BBC World News’ coverage of the demonstration, eliminating more than 30 seconds of footage showing police water cannon hosing protesters and participants criticizing the government and Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.

According to the Sarawak Report, the BBC is investigating Astro’s alleged censorship of its broadcast. Astro received the Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia prize in 2009 for its contribution to pay TV in the region. The Sarawak Report said Al Jazeera’s coverage may also have been the victim of similar censorship.

The ruling Barisan Nasional coalition wants to prolong its decades-old control of the government in the general elections that must be held by April 2013. Prime Minister Najib’s party, the United Malays National Organization (UMNO), the coalition’s dominant member, is meanwhile due to hold its annual national congress in July.

Headed by former Bar Council president Ambiga Sreenevasan, Bersih is not a political coalition. It is a campaign for electoral reform that is supported by civil society organizations and opposition parties. The authorities banned it on the eve of its first big demonstration in 2011 and its current status is unclear.

My Generation Z Kids

I have three kids, all were born between 1995 and 2010. So, they belong to Generation Z (Gen Z), the digital age. Referring to various sources, the Generation Z timeline tends to vary, for example 1992 – 2011 and 1994 – 2004 but I will stick to 1995 – 2010.

Gen Z kids are computer savvy, comfortable with handling electronic gadgets and digital technologies like the Internet. There is no surprise here as Gen Z kids were exposed to the Internet, computers, laptops, cell phones, iPods, iPads, video games, online networking, etc. from the time they were born.

As a Gen X parent (born between 1961 – 1981), I feel ancient sometimes but I do have some accumulated experience when it comes to money. I have been through the smooth and rough patches, the ups and downs when it comes to handling money. Therefore, I do have this one advantage over my digital savvy kids and they will benefit from whatever advice or knowledge I share with them regarding money.

I believe that some money rules are meant to stay and no matter what generation you belong to, the rules remain constant and effective. Below are several money rules of thumb that have helped many people to manage their money successfully. These are the rule of thumbs that I constantly remind my kids at home.

• Save as much as possible, as early as possible
On average, each of my kids get to save about RM700 yearly from money they received as allowances, gifts and ang pows. It is not much but it is good practice for them to receive and manage some money.

• Spend less than you earn
This translates to having some savings that will generate some returns for you. On top of that, you are in control of your debts. Control your spending and you control your debts. Many people are unaware that even small purchases can accumulate to become one gigantic ball of debt. This happens especially when using credit cards and not settling all the bills promptly each month.

• Do not be wasteful
This applies to money as well as other things like food, groceries, water, electricity, etc.

• Find ways to earn extra money
For example, a hobby or a part-time activity that can generate some passive income.

• Evaluate your buying decisions and restrain from impulse buying
It is hard to resist the temptation to spend money on each visit to the shopping mall. Therefore, reduce your frequency of going out to the malls. In addition, delay your purchases for a certain period (e.g. 1 month) to factor out emotional impulse buying.

The above are easily understood by kids and young adults alike. What is your favorite money rule of thumb that you like to teach your own kids at home?

Marina Mahathir: If We’re Not Egypt, Why Fear Bersih?

Harakah

May 8: Marina Mahathir, daughter of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, has launched a stinging attack on UMNO leaders who accused participants of the Bersih 3.0 rally last month of wanting to topple the government through street protests.

“What is this obsession with us not being Egypt anyway? If we’re not, then why worry? Besides, who needs to worry about the Arab Spring unless they identify themselves with Ben Ali, Mubarak, Gadaffi and Assad?” she wrote in a blog posting, referring to the Arab dictators.

UMNO leaders, including her father, had earlier said that Bersih protesters were imitating the people’s uprising in the Middle East, collectively known as the ‘Arab Spring’, and wanted to replace the current government through street protests and foreign interference.

Marina (pic), who also joined the Bersih 3.0 rally on April 28, defended the right to peaceful assembly and said there was nothing wrong when the Egyptian people assembled at Tahrir Square to press for democratic reforms.

“They want a greater say in the policies of the government. They want an end to corruption. They want proper elections with many candidates to choose from, not just those handpicked by the rulers. They want an end to military interference in politics,” she wrote.

“Aren’t these reasonable? But our government will not acknowledge that these demands are quite normal. Well maybe they’re not in an undemocratic country.”

Marina also took to task those who argued that Malaysians need not protest as their country was “not Egypt.

“If Malaysia is not Egypt and our leaders are not Mubarak, then why are Malaysians who went to Bersih treated like Egyptian protestors?” she asked.

“If anyone had gone down to Dataran on the Sunday after Bersih 3.0, apart from the barbed wire, everything was back to normal… Made our point, now let’s go eat. This is why we are not Egypt. In this we agree with our government. We are NOT Egypt. But then why respond in such Mubarak-like fashion?”

On the recent declaration by the National Fatwa Council that demonstrating against the government was forbidden in Islam, Marina reminded of a similar ruling made by Egypt’s Al-Azhar University Fatwa Committee in the days leading to Mubarak’s resignation on February 11, 2011.

“So getting the NFC ( hmmm…dubious initials…) to issue such a fatwa seems very Mubarak-like, doesn’t it?” she quipped.

BERSIH 3.0: Marina Mahathir Syor Suruhanjaya Diraja

Harakah

What Makes You Beautiful.

Good day readers. I’m so exhausted from work, gym, and maybe I only have myself to blame for not getting enough sleep. Sleep deprived and things are finally picking up on high speed. I would love to feel upset or depressed but unfortunately I’m so physically and mentally drained. Waking up early in the morning, catch up with readings, and yes I still bring my lunch box to work. First things first, been working out hard at the gym and I’m picking up kick boxing. Signed up for a trial class tomorrow,and  hopefully I’ll find myself liking it in the long run. Seems like the only thing that’s keeping me sane apart from Leon is my love for fitness. So much that my bosses at work would tease me about it, asking me to set up a routine for everyone during fortnight meetings. :| You should have seen the look on my face.

Well as much as I’d love to complain about my work, I actually love every part of it. Although it’s been tough just getting a good grip of the projects and sucking up my sulky face whenever my 3D software crashes. It’s a great learning curve and I go to work everyday reminding myself that I need this solid foundation. It’s great exposure, and I know this will benefit me in the long run. Great people at work, and I haven’t been spending much! Score, major. :)

Arctic Rose Cheese;

Mother’s Day is coming up, and I’m craving for this cake. It’s so bloody good and I highly recommend this. I’m not a huge fan of sweet things or dessert because they’re usually an overkill for me; but this is one helluva epic piece of cake. I’m sure some of you would have tasted this from the famous My Elephant Thai restaurant in Section17,PJ & Hartamas.

How did you pull this off Yang?

Purple Monkey Facebook

Probably gonna order the Toblerone Dark Chocolate cake for Mother’s Day. :) It’s owned and made by a very good friend, so I hope my credibility when it comes to good food still count.

Rub rub rub me please, ahhhhhhhhhhhh :) Brownthepom’s epic face.

I’m in heaven…… :)

This is how my PC at work look like.

It’s a room for a kid. I’m not that great with 3D renderings yet but hopefully I’ll master it soon.

The happier side! :D

Some very very spicy tomyum soup.

OMG this was the bomb.

craving for glass noodle salad at this hour of the night.

Deep fried shrimp with mayo, dragon fruit etc. Yummy!

My favourite comfort food. :)

I can assure you that after the three dishes above, you’ll be so full.

When I miss my boyfriend or I feel demotivated for gym; I look at this.  It helps ! :D

Leg muscles.

Post-gym blush :)

Many women are turning to kickboxing to tone their legs and butt. It is not only amazing for strengthening the legs and butt muscles but it also is a great cardio exercise that will boost your weight loss like almost no other exercise.

What is kickboxing?

Kickboxing was originally a Thai martial art that is commonly known as Muay Thai. It has been practiced in Thailand for many many generations and they are known as the masters of the art. Kickboxing then exploded and changed and there are now hundreds of different off-shoot styles – some focusing on fighting, others focusing on exercise and cardio.

The main benefits of kickboxing are:

  • awesome fitness;
  • increased strength;
  • increased confidence through knowing self defense and working with people;
  • toned arms;
  • toned and firm legs;
  • toned and firm butt muscles;
  • faster weight loss;
  • explosive power;
  • better balance;

  1. It’s exciting, in order to get any benefit out of an exercise program, you need to stick with it, and in order to stick with – it’s got to be fun. If you find running, jogging, stationary bicycles, terribly dull, try kickboxing training.
  2. These classes give you a full body workout and improve your physical fitness, flexibility, coordination, and balance. If you do the punches with precision and power, you will strengthen your upper body and eventually see more muscle definition. The kicks will strengthen your legs. And kneeing moves (a strike in which you thrust your bent knee upward) will firm your abdominal muscles; in fact, all of the moves, when done correctly, will make your torso into a solid base that lets you do day-to-day tasks more easily. Many cardio kickboxing classes also include bagworm that provides additional fitness and strength training benefits because of the “resistance” when punching or kicking the heavy boxing bags
  3. Effective weight loss, kickboxing workouts burn off an incredible 400 to 600 calories in only an hour. It also keeps your heart at a steady 75% to 85% rate which is proven to be optimum and is the recommended heart rate if you are engaged in exercise or training, and it’s so much fun you will hardly notice all the calories you are burning. Not only are you working your entire body in order to burn calories like a fat furnace, but you will also pack on some muscle which increases your metabolism while resting.
  4. Kickboxing training adds definition and tone to your entire body. The result is a knockout body that not only looks trimmer but looks (and is) stronger and healthier. Your shoulders, arms, legs, abs and back will all begin to firm up. (source)

I’ve done Taekwondo as a kid and sparring was my thing. Gonna start tomorrow and will let you readers how tiring/torturing/fun it is. I reckon it’ll work very well with my strength training at the gym. :) I’m gonna tuck in early, need good rest for tomorrow. Till then, life is too short to waste it on things that don’t matter.

Listen to me. Just focus and prioritize.

Majlis Fatwa : Jangan Berjalan Sebelah Kaki, Nanti Pincang Mengatur Langkah

Huru-hara tercetus jika ia dihalang.

Justeru cukuplah saya mengatakan, jangan berjalan sebelah kaki, nanti pincang mengatur langkah. Salam hormat saya buat Majlis Fatwa Kebangsaan.

Will Najib live up to his pledge to make Malaysia “best democracy in the world” and concede defeat in a gentlemanly fashion like Sarkozy?

In the recent French presidential elections on Sunday, the incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy conceded defeat minutes after the polls closed, announcing that he had called the Socialist candidate Francois Hollande to wish him “good luck” as the country’s new leader. The question that immediately occurred to Malaysians is whether Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who had declared [...]

Exam? Competition?

I don’t really like competition, and I hate exam. After all, it is just to tell how good you are. But how good you are doesn’t apply to the real life situation, in other word, one are just looking at the ranking.

Sketch in Paper

I like NBA, not for the competition. Ask me to anything about basketball, I can tell you a lot, what are the fouls move, how those game strategy works and etc etc. But I cannot name you all those NBA teams’ name. Simply because I just like the art of human body, the way they throw the ball, especially slam dunking. Just as I like WWE for those horse riding apparel on those model.

Competition, is what sharp us today, or in other word, the “kiasuness” in us. But do we really need that? I know I don’t. I don’t need to prove how good I am, I prefer to do what I should and what I think it is good for me – Speaking of selfish :P

How to convert jpegs to pdf in Ubuntu

Had a few documents to scan to PDF urgently today but to my surprise all the cybercafes around my neighborhood didn’t provide scan to PDF service. The best they could do was scan to jpeg. Hmmm…why?

Thanks to Linux I had a solution. Scan the docs to jpeg, then convert the jpegs to PDF using imagemagick. Worked like a charm.

Here’s how, on my Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Install the imagemagick package if you don’t already have it.

:~$ sudo apt-get install imagemagick

Convert a single file.

:~$ convert scan.jpeg result.pdf

Convert multiple files.

:~$ convert -adjoin scan*.jpeg result.pdf

or

:~$ convert -adjoin scan1.jpeg scan2.jpeg result.pdf

Did it work for you? Do you have an alternative solution?

Najib should produce proof or retract and apologise for his wild and irresponsible allegation that Bersih 3.0 “sit-in” was a coup attempt by the Opposition to topple the government

The Failure Of The MAS-Air Asia Share Swap Is Not Just An Ordinary Failed Corporate Merger But A Failure Of The Prime Minister’s Economic Transformation Program(ETP) (en/cn)

Press Statement by DAP Secretary-General and MP for Bagan Lim Guan Eng in Kuala Lumpur on 7.5.2012.

The Failure Of The MAS-Air Asia Share Swap Is Not Just An Ordinary Failed Corporate Merger But A Failure Of The Prime Minister’s Economic Transformation Program(ETP) That Is Supposed To Stop The Rot Of Mismanagement, Financial Malpractices And Failed Strategies In GLCs Such As MAS.

After eight months, the controversial MAS-Air Asia share swap has been terminated, purportedly because it has become an impediment to the recovery efforts of the loss-making flag carrier. Under the original deal, MAS would swap a 20.5% stake for 10% in Air Asia. Now, as part of the reversal of the deal, AirAsia’s chief and founder Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and deputy Datuk Seri Kamarudin Meranun have resigned from the MAS board, with MAS director Mohamed Azman Yahya following suit from AirAsia’s board.

Eight months ago, Malaysians were told that the share swap would be the cure needed to save the ailing national airline. Unfortunately, not long after that, MAS recorded a shocking net loss of RM2.52 billion for 2011, which is the tip of the iceberg for the airline that has been on a downward spiral since the departure of Dato’ Sri Idris Jala in 2009, with its bottomline declining from a net profit of RM490 million in 2009 to RM234 million in 2010 to the staggering loss of RM2.52 billion in 2011.

And now in a complete reversal, Khazanah has admitted that the latest merger of cross-holding of shares, which was intended to create economies of scale for the major shareholders, Khazanah and Tune Air, had become a distraction to the management’s efforts to turn around MAS. In other words, first we were told that the MAS-Air Asia swap would save the airline, and now after eight months we are told that it was actually causing it to fail.

The failure of MAS is a direct reflection of the fundamental problems of the BN legacy, from firstly privatising and subsequently re-nationalisation. Even the 2001 bailout in which the Federal Government paid double the market price at the time could not rescue MAS from its fundamental problems. The Federal Government paid RM1.8 billion or RM8 per share to Tan Sri Tajudin Ramli instead of the market value of RM3.68 at the time.

The failure of the MAS-Air Asia share swap is not just an ordinary failed corporate merger but a failure of the Prime Minister’s much lauded ETPs that is supposed to stop the rot of mismanagement, financial malpractices and failed strategies in Government-Linked Corporations(GLCs) such as MAS.
