I bought an auto gate last month and today when I reached home I found that after open my auto gate and it cannot be closed :(

I tried and tried but stil no luck. After that I smell something weird, I saw smoke came out from the auto gate motor. Immediately I switch off my auto gate power supply and use the auto gate battery to closed my gate.

I called my supplier and he said he will arrange someone check for me and arrange for me. I hope he can promise and check for me ASAP. Anyway my auto gate is still under warranty. How can a product less than 2 month old get problem so fast. Too bad!

There are lots of autogate products in the market now, generally there fall in the the following 3 categories.

    1. Very cheap systems selling for under RM1000 inclusive of installation. they work OK for light gates from developer type houses. Biggest problem is they use cheap undersize motors which will fail after 1-2 years of use. You can try to repair the swing arm by installing a bigger motor but most installers wouldn’t want to do it as they cannot make much money. easier to sell you a new system.

    2. Well known local made systems, such as OAE system which is made in Ipoh. This system is probably the most widely used system in Malaysia, typically most installers would quote about RM1500 – RM1700 to install this system depending on your gate’s layout. These systems are realiable for small and medium sized gates and in the event of failure the spare parts are fairly cheap and easy to find. (here’s an example http://autogatemalaysia.blogspot.com/)

    3. Imported systems. e.g. Stagnoli, FAAC etc. These systems generally are very well made. good quality motors, precision gears, motors with counters etc. Furthermore they are rated for much higher loads (e.g. 250Kg – 600Kg Gates). Definitely these systems will be more robust and last longer. However problem with these systems is when it goes wrong the spare parts will be difficult to source and will be more expensive. (Ala like repairing a Proton or a Citroen!).

The other very important consideration is the type of system you’re comtemplating e.g. http://autogatemalaysia.blogspot.com/2009/06/different-types-of-gate-systems-arm.html

my autogate gave me a lot of problems last time. can not remember the brand, installer told me it is from China, but labeled as Made In Malaysia. and according to him, there are too many brands in the malaysia market, mostly ‘OEM’, by just changing the outlook of the cover. I am using DEA now, so far so good. :)
My advise, beware with those advertisement/leftlet with cheap cheap offers.

I’m using dkc auto gate system SE1 model. The driver unit gives problem every 18-24 months. I had repaired the unit twice and lately it gave problem again. After sale support from installer (Home Alarm & Automation, Pandan Pedana)is useless as they are just middle man. They will dump all their cost to you what ever they was charged from the OEM manufacturer. Decided to scarp the unit and install a new complete set.

Any recommendation for the new set?
