I bought an auto gate last month and today when I reached home I found that after open my auto gate and it cannot be closed :(

I tried and tried but stil no luck. After that I smell something weird, I saw smoke came out from the auto gate motor. Immediately I switch off my auto gate power supply and use the auto gate battery to closed my gate.

I called my supplier and he said he will arrange someone check for me and arrange for me. I hope he can promise and check for me ASAP. Anyway my auto gate is still under warranty. How can a product less than 2 month old get problem so fast. Too bad!

There are lots of autogate products in the market now, generally there fall in the the following 3 categories.

    1. Very cheap systems selling for under RM1000 inclusive of installation. they work OK for light gates from developer type houses. Biggest problem is they use cheap undersize motors which will fail after 1-2 years of use. You can try to repair the swing arm by installing a bigger motor but most installers wouldn’t want to do it as they cannot make much money. easier to sell you a new system.

    2. Well known local made systems, such as OAE system which is made in Ipoh. This system is probably the most widely used system in Malaysia, typically most installers would quote about RM1500 – RM1700 to install this system depending on your gate’s layout. These systems are realiable for small and medium sized gates and in the event of failure the spare parts are fairly cheap and easy to find. (here’s an example http://autogatemalaysia.blogspot.com/)

    3. Imported systems. e.g. Stagnoli, FAAC etc. These systems generally are very well made. good quality motors, precision gears, motors with counters etc. Furthermore they are rated for much higher loads (e.g. 250Kg – 600Kg Gates). Definitely these systems will be more robust and last longer. However problem with these systems is when it goes wrong the spare parts will be difficult to source and will be more expensive. (Ala like repairing a Proton or a Citroen!).

The other very important consideration is the type of system you’re comtemplating e.g. http://autogatemalaysia.blogspot.com/2009/06/different-types-of-gate-systems-arm.html

my autogate gave me a lot of problems last time. can not remember the brand, installer told me it is from China, but labeled as Made In Malaysia. and according to him, there are too many brands in the malaysia market, mostly ‘OEM’, by just changing the outlook of the cover. I am using DEA now, so far so good. :)
My advise, beware with those advertisement/leftlet with cheap cheap offers.

I’m using dkc auto gate system SE1 model. The driver unit gives problem every 18-24 months. I had repaired the unit twice and lately it gave problem again. After sale support from installer (Home Alarm & Automation, Pandan Pedana)is useless as they are just middle man. They will dump all their cost to you what ever they was charged from the OEM manufacturer. Decided to scarp the unit and install a new complete set.

Any recommendation for the new set?

Hello, can any of you guys tell me which company is producing OAE system? I am doing a research on the size of malaysian autogate market. I understand New Electronic, Radion, Autogate are the biggest manufacturer in Malaysia. What about this OAE manufacturer, seems to be quite popular. Thanks

  8. weitatt on March 6th, 2010 6:16 pm

OAE is a company based in Ipoh, very low key company as it is distributed by many installers and branded under their own brand names

Had a very bad experience with Top Ten Alarm/Vigitronx system lately. Our Condo installed their system and we’ve been having no end of problems. Company has very aggressive marketing but very weak after sales support.

cheap things no good, good things no cheap. i wanna clarify that lot of ppl being conned by those ‘promotions’ which the company doing for more business. think carefully anyone, how can you buy a brand new honda accord by paying the price of a proton ? felt sorry for those being cheated. as i am a supplier myself, i will not say that the products i’m using is very good, just slightly better than any cheap system. because the cheap system is for cheap people, because they’re greedy and always comparing price, but not specifications and asking bout warranty. how long it covers ? the warranty is cover for what ? part replacement or labour or cover both ?
OAE, cheap system, made in ipoh. once mini motor damaged, need to send back to ipoh by courier and this amount being bear by customer for sure and maintenance fee as well.
everyone, pls la. don’t always get confused with ‘italian technology’ with ‘made in italy’….ok…..try to use FAAC or BFT…see got any complains or not compare to OAE.

  11. weitatt on April 10th, 2010 5:22 pm

I won’t really classify OEA as a cheap system as they are priced in the mid range. Reliability wise it’s like owning a Proton, fairly average reliability with very easily available parts and a system that all gate installers have the knowledge and expertise to maintain & repair.

No doubt FAAC is the Rolls-Royce of autogate system, however the systems cost on average 2.5 – 3.0 times more, furthermore most installers do not have the expertise to perform the diagnostics and re-calibration of the FAAC control boards. i.e. you will have to rely on the main distributor for support. Just for comparison a typical control board replacement for a local system would cost RM200-RM300, for an FAAC system it would be at least RM700-RM1200.

i am about to shortlist a few brands for my autogate motor and one of it the sales people suggested was O’Key and claim to be italian motor. Can anyone give me some advice on what is the best motor to choose for my autogate which is about 14′ wide and 6′ height. I have read the above comments and cant decide as i have no clue which is a good one or rather a reliable one to install . Need good after sales service too. Help !

What is the brand of the system? Only a handful of reputable imported systems in the market… Big concern is support and availability of spare parts.

Has anyone any experience with the CASA S-320H. The webpage is secritive about the orgin of the parent company and wonder whether it’s another China product

  20. wt on April 14th, 2011 10:15 am

CASA is actually the manufacturing company that is based in Penang. I understand that it’s an offshoot from DCMOTO which is also based in Penang.

  21. mamak on May 22nd, 2011 9:44 pm

manufacturer in penang is too far for servicing, many people introduce D’nor, really good ?

  22. wt on May 23rd, 2011 8:23 am

Like all autogate systems manufactured locally (e.g. OAE, Westmark, Jackpro, E8, Rienzo, DCMOTO, Casa Asia, Comex, Celmer) or imported (FAAC, DEA, Stagnoli). Warranty is provided by the manufacturer. However after sales support and service is provided by the respective local dealers and installers.

Usualler dealers and installers maintain stock of common parts (e.g. arms, motors, remote control & receiver units, solenoid locks, control boards) to be able to provide onsite service.

We have a DEA motor for a sliding gate. We have it just over 12 months & have had lots of trouble with it.We have had to call out the fitter about 6/7 times in the last 12 months & now it gave up again
