How to download NDS game into R4 Revolution?

Do you own a Nintendo DS Lite? How many games do you have? Are you paid for any games?
Let me share how I can have a free game download. How to download NDS game into R4 Revolution?
1. Search for the NDS rom torrent download either in Google.com or Yahoo.com as your preference.
2. Download NDS rom using bit torrent software. Personally I would preferred Deluge or Azureus.
3. Normally you will download .rar file and each .rar represent one NDS game. It’s depend on the torrent that you have download.
4. Open your Windows Explorer.
5. Right click and extract your .rar file. Make sure your have Winrar, 7Zip or any related software for unzip purpose.
6. Connect your R4 Revolution Micro SD memory card into PC MicroSD connector and connect to your computer USB drive. For example, I have drive H: connected as below:
7. Copy Nintendo DS game file extension .nds into your Micro SD memory card.
8. Safely remove your Micro SD Memory Card and connect your R4 into Nintendo DS.
9. Turn on your Nintendo DS and choose your new game.
10. Congratulations! You’re done.
Note: Using an illegal game are prohibited and use at your own risk.

what do you do if when you open a RAR file, it contains multiple RAR files, and each one contains an .nds file. which one should i use?
Normally each “.nds” file represent one single NDS game. Just copy to your into your memory card will do. By then you should be able to see the game name(as .nds) display in your NDS.
What happen if after we copy the game to the sd card, and after we start the game it says, the saved data could not be read. Please turn off the power and re insert the game.
This happens to all the games that I downloaded.
Maureen, I’m not sure. Probably your downloaded files may corrupted.
So if the file I download is already a .nds file then it is ready for transfering onto the DS R4?

hey im back and no all the different nds files were for the same game so i think the issue has something to do with unzipping volumes.
i also have the same problem as maureen even though i download several different versions of the games that dont work and instead display the message “saved data could not be read. Please turn off the power and re insert the game.” i think the problem is not with the file itself but with the R4 chip. most of the games that didnt work on the chinese version of the R4 (the one i have) work perfectly on the english version of the R4.
If you found an error message during new loading ” Can’t find the SAV for this file. Do you want to create it?”, please select OK(A) to continue. Basically SAV file is your history save game file.

I found the answer to why it says saved data could not be read. That means the games are a new games and you need to upgrade your R4 operating systems. You can download the latest version of the operating systems for a website.. ( i just google R4 operationg system.) and then unzip it and save it in your r4 card. when it says data already exist, replace them. Then you have an updated operating system on your r4 card. then the new games will work.
the latest version is 1.14

Keep unzip the rar file until you get xxx.nds file, that’s the file that you need to transfer into your Mircro SD memory card, finally insert your Micro SD memory card into R4 and input it into the nds card slot.

when i was done downloading the games i decided to test it out. when i pressed games it had the games i downloaded but the picture was a folder and it said directory on all of the games. i dont know what to do!
ok mate first of all .. On ur micro SD card you should have
moonshell (folder)
_system_ (folder)
_DS_MENU.DAT (file)
_DS_MSHL.NDS (file)
Ok now create a folder Named (Games)
Now on ur pc all the games you have downloaded either unzip or unrar then put them all into a folder so they look something like
call of duty 4.nds
when you have done this to all ur games copy them to ur games folder on ur micro SD.
start ur DS and select games and you will now see all ur games listed on the upper screen . Scroll down with the Dpad and then press A or tap the game icon to start the game .. there we go .The DS will ask you to create a save file for each game when you first start the game , Select yes and there you go.

when you copy your .nds file, do u copy it in your r4 or in the games folder?
If I D/L a game that unzips to a folder containing .nds, .diz and .ndo files do I need to put a) the whole folder, b) all three files, or c) just the .nds file on my R4?
Sorry about the typo – that should say “.nfo”, not “.ndo”
juz place .nds file will make it fine….
later, when u run the file a .sav file will be created automatically as ur save file.
my ds game always comes up saying save data could not be found. please switch off and re insert the game. what shall i do?
so how long does this whole process take? i download my games off of mini nova, and it takes HOURS. i just wanna know because i dont want to have to wait that long anymore, and some of the games on my R4 are..eh. oh yeah, and how do you get the “cheats” on there?
oh, and what i mean by “cheats” is the button at the bottom where you can click all the codes you want on it.
for the problem of games not saving , i would reformat the microsd card after saving ur game of course and then installing the new r4 firmware onto it , i think the firmware is upto 1.18 now . Iv never tried the cheats mate but i will find out for you .

aurora: RAR is just a compression format – it should decompress when you try to open it, or you may need to use something like stuffit expander.

My son bought one of the r4 cards from thailand recently and starting his pwn downloading and palying on to the card.No problem exept he decided to delete some games and it would seem some important files we need to boot the games.He now only gets the menu options instead of loading the actual games.Can I download the needed files anywhere and what are there names,extensions.

Hi again guys,
To elaborate a bit more. I quizzed my boy as to what exactly it was he deleted and by his description it was a little yellow disk wih a triangle inside.He said he clicked on it and it counted to 10 then done nothing else so he assumed it was a useless file,this then caused the failure of the games to boot up in the nintendo lite ds.
I have downloaded the files as suggested here – kernel4 and moonshell folders,added them to the chip all to no avail. Now when I transfered files from the original chip to another (with games) I needed to have one of the files lying outside of the folder in order to get the machine to boot the games,however I have forgotten what file that was,can anyone perhaps point me in the right direction here.I hope I have explained enough here.

I was wondering, where can i find a chinese kernel or a method to fix it. (I’m fine w/ using a chinese kernel cuz i can read chinese.)

Ruth – a .rar is a compressed file. Use an unzipping program to open it and the .nds file should be in there.
GAM, if you have the kernels and the nds files loaded, all I can think of is to erase the micro sd then start from scratch – there could be a corrupted file somewhere.

hi, i need some help… i purchased an NDS for my niece and the guy at the shop loaded in games to the R4 card. Problem is when I select a game, there is no option to exit. it goes around in a loop and i need to power off in order to go back to the games listing again. anyone can help me with this? i think its kinda silly to be turning the unit off everytime i want to exit a game. please help!

I have managed to put all my games onto my ds but am finding that when i want to exit a game, the only way to do this is to power off and then back on, my question is does anyone else find that it takes quite a while for the ds to load???
i had that problem before, it is the amount of games you have on ur cartridge. if you remove some it should work fine

Maxine, you need a Micro SD memory card (from the mobile phone section at an electronics/phone store), you need to download the kernels (try http://r4ds.cn/download/r4.html) and games from a torrent site and put them on the Micro SD card using a USB adapter to plug it into your computer.

Nathan, it could be the site you’re using. I’ve heard bad reports about a lot of the NDS D/L sites. Try a torrent site like isohunt.

Hi megann, basically SAV file is the game that you have been save. Try delete SAV file and start again.

yeah i have the same problem as Jessica’s, whenever I put any version of the new R4 updates and all I see is Loading.. I couldn’t even get to the menu.. please someone tell me what to do?
Theo, Jessica and UKboy90, you may all have the same problem. What I mean by that is; you may well all have re-badged N5 cards. The N5 are notorious for the problems you are having.
My best advice is take the card back to where you bought it and get them to exchange it for a true R4.

Vicoria. I’ve found that you need to open the zipped file and then transfer the game onto the memory card before it will work ok. Hope this helps

I just purchased a R4 card, and loaded it up with nds files, but it doesn’t work. I dled a few different NDS files and placed them in folder in the micro SD chip, but when I turn the nintendo DS on, a “loading” sign appears, and nothing else happens. This is the second chip I bought..it better work.

I followed the directions in installing the kernel with the most updated version. All my games are .nds but once I turn my ds it continues to just say “Loading…”

i bought an r4 chip then did all the stuff it told me and it worked fine. then i realised i needed a bigger sd memory card so i got one and did the same stuff but now it just gets stuck on the loading screen
If you see the “loading” on screen could it be that you are an incompatible card? I have seen this happen when I use a MicroSDC card in an R4 SDHC card.

Some games were deleted from my R4, the .sav file is still there but the .nds is gone. I’ve read on some sites that i need to copy the .sav file across and it will put the deleted games back onto the menu but i don’t know where i’m to copy from or to. Bit thick i know, please help.

all the “LOADING” screen problems you are having maybe connected to the fact you are using the wrong kernel. try downloading from http://www.r4ultra.com
I wasted a few hours trying to install the official r4 s/w on my 4gb sd card and found this to be the only solution, at time of writing they were up to 1.53 kernel. Hope that helps some of you out.

To all who had the same problem as I with
“LOADING” for a long time.
Solution: remember to format the micro SD before you use it.
Right click on the memorycard icon in ‘my computer’ and choose ‘format’.
Afterwards you instal the Kernel files, and files you want to use (games etc.)
Then the problem is solved.

U need to unrar th game files. Just get winrar and then go into ur downloads on my documents right clikc the game file and click on extract files then select a place and there you go, just drag and drop the file to ur micro sd.

linda – you need to get a card called an R4 (or there are others) and micro sd card from ebay, do a search for it and go from there.
chuythorns – go to the r4 website and depending on which card you have (may mean experimenting and seeing which kernal works) and download the software, my r4 did not like the r4 sites download and came up with the “loading” screen. if this happens go to http://www.r4ultra.com and get the download from there.

V1.18 is the latest one I have and works ok. Simply download drop and drag the files onto the SD card and you should be ready to go. Fingers crossed.

Hi. I have some .nds files (games). I have loaded them on to my micro sd..inserted that into my lovely R4 which in turn goes into my DS lite. I get “couldn’t fine_DS_menu.dat” when I fire up the DS. Could some please point me in the right direction as to what to do next?. Appreciate it.
Hiya, I have the same problem as Sean above me. I have tried all the firmwares (I think) but every time I try to load the cartridge in the ds it comes up couldn’t find menu-dat. in my opinion if ur nds in loading and cant boot ,probably the firmware is corrupt or yur microsd is broken ,try using new micro sd ,and clean format it,and make sure if u got the original r4ds and not clone ,it only support 2 gig and not compatible sdhc micro sd

dear beth ,if u r using the original r4ds,u r out of luck, buy the newer card instead such the cheap r4i sdhc ,my old r4ds cant work with the game like gta chinatown but it work on r4i sdhc ,its the same rom btw. i try using the ysmenu and such but its the same,so i buy r4i sdhc,mabe it have the dma on..so good luck- p/s -im not working for r4i sdhc ,u can also use acekard or dstt that support sdhc memory

In general, it works fine. But I have a problem with some games. It is that every time I load them, they create again the savegame file, so that I am not able to save games in practice. I mean, it seems they are saved, but next time I run again, the file is re-created, so I lose all the info.

After I download my games(.rar files), extract them, and then put then on my r4, its says untitled when I try to play it. The screen turns black when I try to play it. Any ideas?

-steve , u just copy all teh file and transfer it in the new microsd ,btw make sure teh r4 cartridge is the same coz the clone save it diffrently

Hi I have just got an r4 and downloaded and copied all the files of v 1.18 kernel-problem is when I turn on the ds the r4 logo comes up and when i touch on games it comes up with ‘an error was detected when trying to access disc or file…..’ Any ideas? jessicaa-new game got protection canot save so u need game fix.try go to romulation.net for the gamefix.the sav game file is not the same,some save 256kb ,some 512,and if u using emulator n want to save the .sav file in ur nds ,it not working rite now.other method try the game save converter at gbatemp.net
anon-for the standard r4ds revolution is kernel 1.21 the newest .go to gbatemp for this kernel,but for r4i-sdhc is 1.9b.the two of them not the same kernel .please make sure the correct one installed

Hi all.
tried to follow a lot that is written here but struggling.
i bought 2 x R4 Upgrade SDHC Christmas edition from memorycardzoo for my kids.
I formatted as FAT32, and put on the files i downloaded from the Memorycardzoo site as instructed to do.
I downloaded some games and they work just great. Except they do not save. I checked and all of the 512 .SAV files are in the Games folder.
Is there a fix for this?
barry -if the new game it have game save protect ,meaning u cant save ,go to the cheat option and try enabling the game save patch fix (make sure u have the newest cheat database. or game fix for certain game in go to romulation.net . -game such as kingdom heart n gta chinatown war.

I have bought a new R4 card and micro for Nin DS,my son lost his original, I have games ready to install on hard drive of PC, I have downloaded the kernals to the Micro chip and tried downloading games to the same, everything looks good and that games have installed onto micro chip,untill you switch on the DS all I am getting in the middle of the screen is a red square with MENU wrtten in red with a question mark and nothing else.of course when I press MENU nothing happens. much appreciate any help or suggestions. many thanks Vince

barry- u select the game and got to the game u need and press x or y to go to the cheat menu for r4isdhc and for r4 revolution just press y and activate any cheat u need and try booting it ,hope it help

alextay66 – for game u got from cd its the same ,just save it in game folder ,but some game older game u got from cd without .nds ending cannot play coz of the bad dump.
Vince- ahh u need the r4i sdhc coz the usual r4 kernel not work ,just go to r4i sdhc and download the kernel .pick the righ kernel coz the ver 1.4 not work for the plain one ,check the box wether u got the 1.4 or the plain one
dawn- u jest need teh rar extractor ,try googling it ,any kind will do such as winrar or alzip .after u install it u can extract the rar file with those .if u got r001 file and such u must complete download all of them and save all ofthem in one folder and extract the first one normally .

I dunno, I just choose the ff4 game, and asked to the sales clerk to download it, but when it finished, I turn on the game but it is not playing, it only turns to a totally whole white screen.
white screen probabaly ur r4 kernel is old or the rom is corrupt , try the latest r4 revolution at http://filetrip.net/c1526-R4-series.html ,pick the right kernel for ur card ,btw the 1.25 is the latest ,im using 1.21 ,works fine for my r4ds

mpxv1.mpd, pcv5.mpd, harvesterdb (DAT file) and 0 (DAT file) but I couldn’t play the games.
Are they the correct files? Do I need to reformat?

If any files appear with ‘rar.’ then upload that onto your R4. If there isn’t then I recommend you go to ROMFreaks to download your games. You should be able to find the right stuff there

I can do all this but everytime I try to play a game I’ve downloaded onto the R4 it’s not there and it’s put in the Moonshell folder instead. It also says “not support ext”. Can anyone help?

I have had an R4 for a few months working fine. ‘Somehow’ a few games were deleted so when I tried to reload them (I have a back up on my laptop) they now won’t load once inserted in the DSL. I have tried to download the operating system again and load that, no luck. Any ideas?

i have a r4i card which i recently bought with a dsi,it didnot work at first then i replaced theold software with a new version,then it worked but there was still a problem,every game i tried a message kept appearing ‘savfile cannot be founded please reset system’,i looked up this problem on google,the solution that were given to me were,1 less space on memory card but that could not be right as it is a 4gb card with over 1gb left,2 copy all the files to computer and format the memory card several times but it did not help,now i have come here hoping someone here could help as soon as possible as my daughters birthday is coming up and i need this fixed as soon as possible…..
