How to Upgrade R4 Kernel

According to my previous posted about "How to download NDS game into R4 Revolution" reader comment,  there are certain saved data could not be read due to R4 kernel version.

The following tips will guide you "How to upgrade R4 revolution kernel". Hope this can help!

  1. Backup your previous version of R4 kernel. Create a temporary folder in your computer and copy DS_MENU.DAT, _DS_MSHL.NDS and moonshl folder from the root directory of TF/memory card as a backup.
  2. Download the latest R4 revolution for DS kernel here. (last updated: version 1.14 2007-12-19 10:00:01).
  3. Extract R4English-1.14. rar file.  
  4. Copy DS_MENU.DAT, _DS_MSHL.NDS and moonshl folder to the root directory of your TF card to replace the former files.
  5. Switch ON your Nintendo DS and check your R4 revolution version in the main screen.
  6. You can play your desire game now.
  7. Congratulations! You're done!

    i copied the files as told. but when i switched on the Ds it says ‘file doesn’t support’ ! why?

    i copied games onto r4 when i put it in it just comes up with LOADING and thats it? could you tell me why please?

    I have just bought the r4 revolution 3 for DS and cannot get it to read on my DS. I have downloaded the newest kernel as the older one wouldn’t work, but this one hasn’t fixed the problem either. My chip works fine in my Moms card it just seems to be my card. Any ideas?

    When I turn on my DS with the NDSL card in all I get are two black screens with “Loading…” on the top screen. Don’t get any further than that. Please help.

    Dawn, the kernel for the R4 III upgrade model is entirely different to the usual R4 kernel. You need to go to : http://www.r4dsl.net and look for the kernel files for the R4 III, it will be version 3.07 or similar.
