I was trying Joomla! for the last 2 days. And finally the web site is up today! (sorry for not to mention the url here)..

Few years back I was tried Mambo before but because of “Mambo’s Developer Team Breaks” and now I choosed Joomla!.

Joomla!

[tag]Joomla[/tag]! is one of the most powerful [tag]Open Source[/tag] [tag]Content Management Systems[/tag] on the planet. It is used all over the world for everything from simple websites to complex corporate applications. Joomla! is easy to install, simple to manage, and reliable.

Joomla! is a production of Open Source Matters, the same team that brought you the award winning Mambo Content Management System. OSM has taken their final stable version of Mambo (4.5.2.3), given it a spring clean and named it Joomla! 1.0 In addition, several small features that were going to be released in Joomla! 1.1 have been brought forward and included in this release.

Joomla! installation is pretty easy.
Look at a Installation summary as below:

  • First, you MUST ensure that PHP has been compiled with support for MySQL, zlib and XML in order to successfully run Joomla.
  • Secondly download the Joomla tar.gz package
  • Make a directory for the web site
  • Uncompress this distribution file into the directory
  • Create MySQL Database
  • username@myplanet:~$mysqladmin -uroot -ppassword create joomla_database_name
  • Replace ‘root’ and ‘password’ with the username and password that is used for your MySQL database.
  • You may also use phpmyadmin (a php based, MySQL Administration tool)
  • username@myplanet:~$mysql -uroot -ppassword joomla_database_name < sql/joomla.sql
  • Replace ‘root’ and ‘password’ with the username and password that is used for your MySQL database.
  • Change your Joomla folder and file permission according to your Apache user
  • Logging into the administration site, Go to http://www.yoursite.com/administrator/
  • Username : admin Password : admin
  • When you login to the Administration section of Joomla for the first time, remember to change the email address of the Administrator, to your own. This way you will receive all emails automatically sent by the system. Joomla will prompt you to delete your Installation folder and then refresh the page. This is for security reasons, so that a malicious user cannot change your installation. Until this is done, Joomla will not work.
  • Gongratulation! You’re done.
