Maxis Broadband Above Level 4!
Tags: Broadband, Maxis
Yesterday, we were talked about broadband topic during lunch time and one of my colleague shared about his Maxis broadband story.
My colleague move to his new condo last month and his is looking for a new broadband service. So he went to [tag]Maxis[/tag] office and he told the customer service officer that he stay at Ampang blah blah blah condo 9th floor and he would like to subscribe for the Maxis broadband. However the officer told him that they don't have any coverage above level 4. Huh! WTH? Why the [tag]broadband[/tag] signal cannot go up further level 4? The officer also cannot answer his question.
What do you think about Maxis Broadband? Look at our previous post here and comments. I'm not trying to comment anything here but I just would like to share this info with everyone.

Yeap, that’s what Maxis promoter told me last time also, he said above level 4 is not encouraged, but it is possible, cause if there isn’t any broadband, it will change to 3G or GPRS (Which means… Slow). But from my friend’s experience, Maxis doing very good in connection, it run as promised… Maybe due to lack of consumer also la…

I am using maxis broadband 384k and living in 17th floor. I am still able to get HSDPA (status from the wireless modem) but feeling not as googd as streamyx, probably because of 17th floor. My friend staying at terace house from pj is getting a very good speed “faster” then streamyx. So if you staying in condo and 5th floor & above, streamyx still the best. But now celcom oso got broadband oledi, not sure if it’s good.

hi there, regarding you are not allowed to subscribe for Maxis Broadband service due to you are staying at 9th floor, is because Maxis want to make sure all customers get the best service from them. if let say, they are still letting you subscribe, but you are not getting the speeds you expect, for sure you will be get mad and start complaining about Maxis. is not Maxis Wireless Broadband not covering above level 5, is just they cant promise the best speed above level 5 to the consumers so they won’t allow the customers to subscribe. landed property will definitely get a great speed if comparing to apartment or condo, the signal strength might not that good enough. moreover, for high buildings, it might be blocked by other building and influence the signal. hope i have make you clear that why you are not able to subscribe.

So far i’m using Maxis Broadband No Problem at all i’m surfing in areas Subang Jaya (HSDPA), Kota Damansara (HSDPA), Beranang (3G, Sg Udang, Klang (EDGE). its true sometimes the speed is sucks but as long i can surf the internet just fine for me. If you’re heavy metal downloader this package not suit 2 u. I don’t think others provider can guarantee their speed also. One thing its mobile…buddy..

In mobile network systems (which Maxis Broadband is based on - since it is a 3.5G/HSDPA network), based stations signals are always tilted downwards - towards the ground where people are and not upwards towards rooftops (birds don’t carry handphones yet). Hence the possibility of a lack of coverage at higher floors and/or signal interference. That’s why they don’t sell above a certain floor level. Hope this clarifies.

to tell all of you guys out there the truth is WE ALL ARE taken for a ride.they are making us as their test platform and we are paying for their infrastructure.all key players i beleive maxis have the advantage if we look from business side of view as the have the north south highway cable link fibre optics that gives them the edge but than when it comes back to consumers they have to share the cake with other telcos.
Look ou telcos out there and maxis as well, please dont start charging us with this redicolous pricing structure. As if we dont know that the broadband platform is not fully develop and thats why you guys need third partied such as vodafone to come in and make long term investment in this.
AND siapa yang kena…we Malaysian being stupid enough to swallow everything that you guys throw at us.HELLO MR Goverment so called MCMC..WAKE up….we are being rob in broad day light here.
MAybe u guys are busy with other things but please lah just take into account the amount of money that MALAYSIANs need to pay for tis kind of Terms and Agreement.
WHY US?because we are the first generation users…THATS WHY…W edont have any choice but please lah look at the amount of money circulating

In my area, there is no coverage for streamyx so i was forced to use other companies to access for the internet… last time i was using the times internet connection and the speed is so slow… recently i switch to maxis broadband and find it quite ok, perhaps slow and cannot be connected during dawn, and i am living in the 14th floor… so maybe its due to that reason it is so unstable. However, i would still prefer streamyx if i had the choice… =p

i dont think so the power package is very power to me…. it looks like the same… i been conned by maxis by UPgrading my maxis to 3.6, now im still getting the same speed as 380kbps (this is the speed for local only, not applicable for external route speed) i tested with stremyx 512kb package which the streamyx can stream my yesgonow TV smoothly and maxis totally failed to buffer properly!!! My area is in Puchong jaya, Jalan belatuk 9 which should have the coverage of 3.6mbps but yet the speed sucks! called up and screwed the call desk and nothing improved since then! i used this maxis narrowband since 1st jan 2007 till now and result is very unhappy!!! my Celcom works better even outstation!
Im really totally frustrated using this maxis narrowband so i think the best still streamyx! only thing streamyx sucks is after rain!!! it get flu easily (u know what i mean)….
For the people who wanted to get maxis! pls think hundred times before u get it… and dont forget to read the terms and condition! once u r a maxis customer, prepare to be conned by the hidden charges!!
if anyone wanted to subscribe maxis!! U CAN TAKE MINE FOR FREE and i will transfered the account to u, u pay for the transfer fee!!

Hi…Max Steven
So terrible ur Power Maxis Broadband become Slower Maxis Narrowband. Hope Maxis hear all these complaints not just counting profit only….
December 18th, 2007 at 6:10 pm
speed depends on location.
some places only have 2G thus of course the speed is much slower.
seriously, power package will never reach 3.6mbps.
Even i try in Menara Maxis (maxis’ headquater), speed also 1000kbps max.
Overall, the usb modem is better than ZTE modem.
I have subcribed both actually.
December 20th, 2007 at 8:23 am
hey guys, end of the day it depends on what sort of a internet user you are, and how much cash u hv to spend for the service. The Maxis USB modem similar to the Celcom one, but Celcom makes u pay around 1k (correct me if i am wrong) while maxis charges u 138 per month including the modem “rental” I rather take this offer because for 138 I get unlimited usage, the modem is taken care by maxis, and i don’t get stuck with an obsolete device in 18 months time. Like it or not this is the future of mobile devices. thes ervice speed is not too bad, my area only has 3G coverage but the speed is more steady and constant that Streamyx. No kidding…. with a constant of 250kbps-300kbps, its more than enough to do my work, emails, blogs, files transfer….and the best part is my connection travels with me where ever I go. SO MAKE UP YOUR MIND BASED ON THESE CRITERIAS, DON’T LISTEN TO OVER EMOTIONAL PEOPLE….
January 14th, 2008 at 5:28 am
I’m with Max Steven on this one. I too, am presently subscribing to Maxis Power package, yet my average downloading speed is approx. 300-400 kbps everytime. If subscribing to power package enables you to hit 3.6 Mbps as claimed, then at very worst of its service, should’nt I be getting an average of 1.0 - 1.5 Mbps, which is actually less than half proclaimed max speed?
Paying RM98 monthly for 10% worth of service sucks la Maxis woiiii…. do something quick la tambeyyyyyy! Dont give false advertising la deyyyy…
January 14th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
ok, i got my Wireless Broadband on MAY 07 because i had no choice in my weakass area, frequent disconnections, nvm, slow, nvm, so i downgraded my package 2 months ago and they RENEWED my contract for another 18 MONTHs without informing me WTF. OK FINE.
then my friend moved to somewhere in puchong and had no options too, so i suggest to let him take over mine (transfer ownership rm50), we went to Maxis TTDI and u wanna know what they told me? “Sorry You Are NOT Allowed To Transfer Your Account Because You Are Still Under Your Contract” GG Nuff Said.
WHATS THE POINT TO TRANSFER OWNERSHIP FOR RM50 IF WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL OUR CONTRACT ENDS 1ST? Might as well terminate it for fuck sake.
January 24th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
all i can say is, the connections suck. big time. No matter how many times u turn it off, when it connects, its still UMTS and i can only search things from google, but when i click on any links, it will take hours to finally open. called the customer service so many times already but nothing really change. And i stayed in a landed property in Ukay Perdana and currently paying RM98 bux for rubbish.
January 24th, 2008 at 11:07 pm

Riza, your last 3 sentences tu memang terbaik la! hahaha! Anyway guys, I agree with the majority of the people here, MAXIS BROADBAND SUCKSSS!!! wasting my hard earn money every month! I pay rm100+ every month but getting the UMTS connection with a speed of around 100kbps even though i’m living in the area which claims to be within the high speed 3g access.
February 2nd, 2008 at 11:18 pm
guys…signed up for the maxis mobile so got the usb modem and all but haven’t tested it yet coz my laptop is not with me at the moment. I am staying on the 16th floor… IF the connection is bad or no connection at all, can i cancel eh? the 30 days free trial still applicable?
February 10th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
Guys,
What I got from Maxis is not MAXIS BROADBAND, they have changed it to MEKCHIS BURUKBAND, cousin to MEKCHEH BERUKBAND. The thing sucks! I am sticking to streamyx but still they are laughing all the way to the bank since I am stuck with it for the next 18 months…Read the fine print guys!
February 22nd, 2008 at 4:46 pm
I use Maxis Broadband POWER package (3.6mbps) In Ampang. I always check the speed when i go online. The fastest i go is 2.8mbps which is good. Behind the modem it says “DON`T USE DURING A THUNDERSTORM”

I was attracted to the such grand and promising maxis broadband adver and subscribe for the same three weeks ago under the ‘advance package’ with up to 640kbps. To every Malaysian out there, please think twice before subscribing as for the past three weeks I had never ever in a sngle day experienced good and continuous reception, its either break down, poor connections and very slow downloading speed with only 80-90 kbps, every single day I need to call the 1800 customer service for resetting and they can never ever provide a solution to resolve this problem…As a matter of fact, anyone out there who are legal counsel, could you please help to bring up this matter up legally as they are misrepresenting and lure us to subscribe for a braodband service which they can’t even deliver !!! On top of that they categorised into different packages and what I can see is that there is no difference at all by paying RM68,78,99 cos’ my friend who subscribe for the said maxis experienced the same dilemma and we all have to tied down for 18 months contract. If any legal counsel who is kind enough to look into this matter and make things for the matter and its Time we wake up and seek for our Consumer Rights…

I’m using maxis broadband at UPM serdang.
It’s pure hell indoors. I download at 6 kbs even at night time. When I use it at the faculties I can download at 40 kbs. And I live on the GROUND FLOOR. connection breaks often, like 2 or 3 times a day. and I have to pay 120 a month for this?
I’m just 1 week into using it. 17 months and 3 weeks to go.. Ouch lol
“Realy, It’s a modem!” my foot…

Few days ago, I wrote an email to Maxis Customer Services. I have been a Maxis broadband subscriber since September 2007. Upon initial subscription, god knows all sorts of problems I’ve encountered, the worst of course, low bandwidth and unstable connection. Nevertheless, I remain loyal to Maxis, in the hopes that they’d improved their infra and services, and I’d enjoy optimum broadband experience.
Last week though, my patience was severely tested, as my net speed was consistently below 140 Kbps. Apa nih? Bayar RM98 monthly for (up to) 3.6 Mbps, tapi dapat 140 Kbps saja ka? Kalau dapat 20% of max speed pon sepatutnya dah around 700+ Kbps dah?!
So, i wrote a beautiful, long, love letter to Maxis Customer Services one night…with the letter ending like this;
“..Truly, I fail to see why I should pay RM100+ monthly for a deal that assures (up to) 3.6 Mbps broadband speed, when I can’t even average 10% that promise. Any form of explanation I would welcome…a solution would be thrilling.”
The next day, I got a call. “Encik ****? We received your email, and after much thoughts over your problem, we wish to suggest to you a solution.”
I said,”Excellent, problem solving process at work, I like…what dya have in mind?”
Maxis’”We suggest you terminate your subscription. We’ll earmark your account for special out of contract (18 months) arrangement, and you can go to any Maxis centre and do a termination process, without penalty of course.”
I was stunned. I said,”That’s not a solution, that’s TERMINATION.” Apa nih? Mintak bagi solution, diorang suruh terminate pulak? Is that how much thinking they can do? That means they cannot solve everyone’s problem also lah! (I’m quite sure everybody else share my problems.)
But after much deliberation, I face the agonizing pinch-me truth. If I terminate my Maxis subscription now, are there any other broadband services that can GUARANTEE a satisfactory broadband experience? Streamyx? Jaring? Izzi? Or whatever funky-named-services out there? Well, are there??? Maxis clearly is doing a guerrilla-marketing maneuver on me….
A friend of mine from Singapore once quipped, “You boast of broadband services, but you keep quoting speeds in Kbps! That is so lame…”
Sadly, I nodded my head in agreement…

I’ve posted my grievances on 16th March,as i’m a new user so I’ve always make reservation for maxis to improve its services but months has gone by and as usual I have to give a call to the customer service for resetting and the reception and speed is far below the 640mbps, average 180-220mbps,the most and drop to 99-120mbps easily and we have to reset the modem ourselves by switching it on and off now and then. I am really wandering as to some of the lucky fellow who have posted that they are enjoying a good reception of 3.6mpbs???Presumably, Maxis is not putting enough receptor at certain parts of the city/town area resulting in poor and good reception here and there. It may be good in damansara but damn bad in cheras. The question is why Maxis is not taking the necessary steps such as putting up more receptor in ensuring a good coverage for all broadband user instead of spending the huge sum in advertising claiming superb maxis broadband communications which is luring all innocent user into believing the same to be true…I sincerely urged Maxis to look into this matter and as a telecommunication service provider,do keep up to your promise and standard as an end user,we are paying every month for your service,we can’t seek for discount nor recourse whenever your service falls short of expectation,Right!!! So, be fair to us and cater seriously in upgrading the broadband services as what you have proclaimed. You know, a wise old man always states that be truthful and live up to your promise in running a business and it shall grow and prosper…

LauRich,
I envy you, bro…
640 Mbps(Megabytes Per Second) and you’re complaining?
Or did you mean Kbps (Kilobytes Per Second)?
Hehe…
April 23rd, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Obi Wan kentucky
Thanks for your fine tune, its my mistake and its certainly kbps instead of mbps,
Oh…by the way, just came across a new broadband provider when i drop by a mobile phone counter,i can’t recollect the exact company providing the service but its 018 counter whereby the lightweight 3.6mbps USB modem is only RM78 a month whereas maxis’s USB modem at RM138/month,they were saying the coverage is applicable at all klang valley and wilayah and the speed is fantastic. However, after my subscription with maxis, i dare not to believe in any other broadband advert.claiming for superiority over others…unless whoever out there had subscribed for the same post his/her certification, Cheers

A warning from one consumer to another:
DO NOT SIGN UP TO MAXIS BROADBAND!
If you love your kids, don’t let them use Maxis broadband.
Kids who surf slower, learn slower and with the added pressure from having an unstable internet connection and constant disconnection could lead them to having suicidal tendencies at such a young age.
IF YOU LOVE YOUR KIDS, SAY NO TO MAXIS BROADBAND!

OK guys, I know I’ve let the whole world know of my frustrations with Maxis Broadband before, but there’s a new twist to the plot now it seems, and I hope it spells for better things to come.
Couple of months ago, I received a message from Maxis, saying that they noted all my complaints and are making efforts to upgrade their services in my area, with a target completion of April 2009.
Lately, there appears to be an IMPROVEMENT in my broadband connection, I fool you not. My average bandwidth nowadays has jumped from 140+Kbps to an average of 1 Mbps! Although it seems to cutoff a lot more at the moment, I’m hoping for a more stable connection in the future. I’ll keep you guys posted with every new development, but for now I’m quite happy with the progress. For your info, I’m staying in Damansara Damai area.
Maxis, let it be on record that people DO appreciate if you’re making the efforts to improve your service, but please do not take our acknowledgment for granted for we’re still your PAYING CUSTOMERS!

I think it’s very location dependent. I first subscribed Maxis Broadband (USB) some months ago but I returned it after 7 days. I got consistent 115Kbps connection. I live on the 17th Floor. I was, obviously disappointed. What with the 3.6Mbps claims.
Then many months later, a friend of mine was raving about Maxis broadband and told me that they have improved tremendously. Coincidently, my Streamyx connection was down for 2 weeks, so I decided to give Maxis another try.
Much to my pleasant surprise, I get consistent 1.7Mbps connection on the 17th floor. Not exactly the recommended (5 floors for apartment) requirements.
Also, I got 1.2Mbps from my hotel room in First World, Genting. Another surprise.
Having said all that, it really depends on your location. Some with HSDPA or 3.5G, you would get at least a 1Mbps connection, otherwise it could be between 384-512Kbps.

Pleased to note that few has put forward an encouraging message pertaining to maxis broadband. However, i need to highlight to all my predicament…all of you out there are advise to really seek the truth from any maxis agent and/or centre the area of your coverage for its been six months i’ve subscribed for maxis broadband but my connections has never ever exceed 110kbps…..its between 56kbps-70kbps,never ever have a stable connection speed and the package i’ve subscribe for is an advance package with up to 640kbps ! On top of that i’ve just spoke to the customer service few days ago and was told that my area Pandan Indah,Kuala Lumpur has no maxis broadband coverage and there’s only a starter service, meaning to say if i were to subscribe for the 3Mbps USB Modem,my connection speed will also be bound to the stater package connections.
I personally wander why does Maxis have to put up such a big advertisement with all the promising words when they can’t even deliver ??? and on top of that neither does anyone tell me the truth that Pandan Indah is not under maxis broadband coverage, when they are well aware of my residential address when i hand them the subscribtion form!!!
Also the customer service told me that despite the advance package of RM78 a month but if you were to utilize above 3GB of downloading, maxis will automatically control or cut down the connections speed, which means to say you have to take 2-3 minutes to open a page!!! and that;s when my connections speed will down drastically to 18kbps-20kbps, YES believe me,its the truth !!!

I’ve just subscribed to Maxis Broadband Power Package few days ago!
Regretfully, I should have searched online for Maxis Broadband connectivity before signing up! Should I have seen this site, I would have dropped Maxis Broadband just like an used tissue paper!
Now, I totally regret I have signed up to Maxis Broadband! The Power Package is more like “powder” package! Cos’ really nothing substantial about this package at all!
Thankfully, I am still under 7 days trial period, so they should allow me to terminate my contract with no fuss! If not I am so going to make a scene at the Maxis Centre tomorrow!
This is my 1st weekends using Maxis Broadband.
And I have only 3 words for it : ATROCIOUSLY SLOW & UNSTABLE.
Fooled by their false advertising & annoyed by their incompetence Customer Service!
I am definitely switching to Streamyx tomorrow, even I have to install a phone line for that, I would gladly do it now, simply because, once we have tasted better “speed”, anything slower just isn’t making any sense.
Imagine, every 10-15min of usage, you will be disconnected.
And each time, it takes about 5min to get back!
I almost smashed my PC and the modem last night due to PURE frustrations!
Maxis Broadband just isn’t the way!
So, Hi Streamyx and Good Bye Maxis Broadband!
October 27th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Everybody lies..Streamyx is just as bad.I’m using Maxis broadband power pack too in penang.i’m living in the island part of penang and they said maxis broadband cover the whole island; and what did i get; a freakin slow lousy connection.sumtime it even change to UMTS.and here i though the whole island is HSPA covered.i’m thinking of switching to celcom but from what i heard from my fren, celcom is as bad as maxis
