Older Add-Ons Work With Firefox 3.0 Tested

The article from Slashdot or ComputerWorld - “Make older add-ons work with Firefox 3.0″ make me aware and I did a test immediately.

  • Type about:config into Firefox’s address bar and click the “I’ll be careful, I promise!” button.
  • Right-click anywhere. Choose New>Boolean. Make the name of your new config value extensions.checkCompatibility and set it to false.
  • Make another new boolean pair called extensions.checkUpdateSecurity and set the value to false.
  • Restart Firefox.

What’s next? My Firefox keep crashing! The worst case happens and the browser won’t start.

Yes! I have  Colorful Tab, Download statusbar, FasterFox, Firefox showcase, FireFTP, Foxmarks Bookmarks, Google Toolbar, gTranslate, LogMeI and StumbleUpon add-ons installed. I’m not sure which add-ons causing the error.Just forget it.

To make sure I can continue using my Firefox 3 browser,  startup Firefox(safe mode) and disable all add-ons and it’s worked. But this is not fix permanently.

Locate the file “prefs.js” within your Firefox profile directory and edit it with any text file editor to delete the line with the preference you just created as mentioned by ComputerWorld Australia.

Conclusion:
Older add-ons doesn’t worked on my Firefox 3.0 RC1 running on Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3.

Let’s wait for the final release of Firefox 3 and good luck.
