There are also two additional CDs that you can download, one that contains language packs and the other one for non-open-source software.

    Installation:

  • I didn’t have any problems downloading(I use DVD), burning, and installing.
  • OpenSUSE’s installer is quite impressive, everything go smoothly and all hardware’s are auto detected.
  • Application:

  • OpenSUSE 10.2 x86_64 come withKernel 2.6.18.2-34-default, Gnome, OpenOffice 2.0.4, Firefox 2.0.3, GIMP 2.2.13 and many more, just choose what you want to install.
  • Desktop:

  • Personally I prefer Gnome desktop, I like Gnome Menu.
  • 3D Desktop(Berly/XGL/Compiz):

  • It’s not working by default, add additional YAST package repositories and download the Nvidia drivers to make it work.
  • Remote Desktop:

  • installed rDesktop and Terminal Server Client (tsclient)
  • tested(remote access) working fine on few Windows XP & Windows 2003 Server
  • Networking:

  • Running Bridge Networking(eth0 & eth1).
  • brctl addbr mybridge
    brctl stp mybridge on
    brctl addif mybridge eth0
    brctl addif mybridge eth1
    ifconfig eth0 0.0.0.0 up
    ifconfig eth1 0.0.0.0 up
    echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
    dhclient mybridge

  • eth0 connected to physical network port & eth1 connected to my laptop due to limited network port near to my cubicle.
  • make sure your firewall configure correctly.
  • Speed:

  • Definitely FAST even running 3D effects.
  • Conclusion:

  • I’m happy with it! This is my first time running OpenSUSE and x86_64 bit Linux box :)

Welcome to OpenSUSE!
