According to eWeek news, the Linux company - Redhat announced on Dec. 20 that long-time president and CEO Matthew Szulik is resigningand will be replaced by James M. Whitehurst, a former Delta chief operating officer, as of the first of next year.

The explanation for this surprising move was that Szulik felt he had to leave to attend to family health matters. Sources close to Red Hat said that Szulik's wife is quite ill.

Red Hat announced outstanding financial results for its third fiscal quarter, which ended Nov. 30. The Red Hat company's revenue for the quarter jumped to $135.4 million.

That is an increase of 28 percent from the equivalent 2006 quarter and 6 percent from the second quarter of this year. Drilling down, Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscriptions represented the bulk of Red Hat's income. The company's total RHEL income was $115.7 million. That brings RHEL's income up 30 percent year-over-year and 6 percent sequentially.

Personally, I hope Red Hat can continue grow, bring us new, good products & good services that can challenge Novell or Microsoft.
