I’m busy discussing about - “Shall we put manager in email loop?” with few colleagues in office recently.

From the discussion, I found some colleagues are strongly agreeable not to cc or bcc manager in the email loop but some engineers are encouraged to cc or bcc manager in the email loop. For me, it’s totally depend on the project or work task itself.

This is just my personal opinion and this may not apply to everyone.

If manager in the email loop:

Pros:
• Keep manager update about our project works or tasks
• Some engineers will only reply to the email when manager in the loop

Cons:

• Some engineers will not reply your email if the manager in the loop

If manager NOT in the email loop:

Pros:
• Avoid unnecessary email from manager

Cons:

• Manager won’t know what are you working on
• Some manager may keep chasing you about the project update

Anyway the MANAGER that I mean here is more on “People Manager”. Basically, I think most of the people manager are lack of technical skills. Why we so called people manager? Just to managed peoples, all related to people issues & etc.
