VMWare Workstation 5 and 6

I’m a fans of [tag]VMware[/tag] Workstation.
I used to have [tag]VMware Workstation[/tag] version 5.x installed and upgraded to version 6 in my Windows XP laptop since last month. Everything are working fine with existing VM guests.
Recently, I’m plug-in an unknown USB thumb drive in one of my [tag]SuSE[/tag] [tag]Linux[/tag] Enterprise Server 10 VM guest but I’m getting an error message as below:
Please upgrade your virtual machine to enable high-speed USB 2.0 support for the device “xxxxx Removable Disk”. An attempt will be made to connect this device to the best available host controller. This may result in an undefined behavior for this device.
This is sounds like I opened a virtual machine from an earlier version of VMware Workstation, which didn’t have USB 2.0 support. Normally VMware don’t automatically upgrade any VM guests to the latest format. So in case you want to continue using it with the older VMware software that created early and If you do want to take advantage of USB 2.0 support you should “Go to Virtual Machine ->click Upgrade or Change Version.” Now it’s working fine with [tag]USB[/tag] 2.0.
When moving from one version of VMware software to another & if you want access to the latest features, you should always:
- upgrade the virtual hardware, as you’ve already done
- upgrade the VMware Tools inside the VM
Again, have you buy VMware share early? If YES, you are the new millionaire.
