Windows XP CPU Usage go up to 100% with VMWARE – Fedora Core 6
Posted by Planet Malaysia on December 2, 2006
I had a Fedora Core 6 installed on Vmware Workstation 5.5.3 on top of my Microsoft Window XP recently.
Previously it was running fine but I found my machine CPU usage go up to 100% and the vmware-vmx.exe process used more than 90% of CPU usage when startup X-Windows(Gnome).
After checked around and I found it’s something wrong with the FC6.
Click on System -> Preferences -> More Preferences -> Sessions -> Startup Programs:
Hmm… It’s a Fedora Directory installation program – /opt/fedora-ds/setup/setup and more than 6 “/usr/bin/vmware-user” problem during startX windows. I removed the “/opt/fedora-ds/setup/setup” and keep 1 copy of “/usr/bin/vmware-user” and finally it’s worked fine:)
Again I restart the FC6, more than one “vmware-user” came out again. I don’t care what is this about and I guess this must beFedora Directory setup program problem which I stop the installation half way the other days.

If you have Windows XP, why do you use linux?
Basically I dont see any advantages to using linux over windows xp, Im dual booting windows

over windows. The only thing i have been using ubuntu for is web browsing playing
music/movies (cant play games) which I can do better/hassle free in windows.
So what are the advantages of l using linux over xp?
