The Perak DAP headquarters in Bandar Ipoh Raya was damaged when two unidentified men hurled a petrol bomb at it early this morning.
The incident, which happened at 2.20am, was witnessed by security guard Ammeri Ahmad, 45, who was on duty at a nearby school, and who then called the police.
There were no injuries reported as the building was empty and only two windows were damaged, said Ammeri.
The DAP office is located on the top floor of a two-storey shophouse. On the ground floor is an Indian-Muslim restaurant.
Ammeri said he saw two men throwing something at the windows of the DAP office that caused two loud explosions.
He said when he approached the shophouse the two men took off on a motorcycle.
Perak DAP chairman Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham said the incident appeared to be politically motivated and called on the police to conduct an immediate investigation into the incident.
“It is an attempt to burn the DAP office and is believed to be done by those who have elements of mischief towards the party,” he said after visiting the office.
Ngeh, who is also a senior state executive councillor, said this was the first incident of its type since the formation of the state coalition government after the March general election.
He urged the people to respect the coalition government as it was the people’s choice.
Ipoh deputy police chief Supt Idris Abdullah said police were looking into elements of mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage.
He said no suspect had been picked up.
Ipoh Fire and Rescue personnel were at the scene after receiving a call at 3am and carried out an inspection.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been thinking about quiting blogging.
What is NH? Honestly, NH is nothing more than a shrine for my ex. Most of the stories here resembles our long gone relationship (4 years ago). I am an analytical guy. Somehow, this feeling, I don’t know how to comprehend. So I kept writing and writing, dwelling on the feelings she left me with. I don’t want that feeling to swallow me.
NoktahHitam, the initial idea was to be an emo blog, Titik Hitam to be exact. But I didn’t like the name, I could be mistaken for Tetek Hitam. Ugh, wouldn’t that be a sinful name?
So my dear readers, I’m sorry if I have eluded you with erratic symphony and melancholic writing style of mine. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
If you have any last words or encouragements before I quit, please leave them in my comment. How significant is NH to you? I will make my decision on Tuesday.
Warmest Regards, Edwin Masripan.
ps : Silent readers, time for you to speak up before its too late.
It was rather telling this evening, where other people's priorities are. When you know how loaded up somebody is with contractual deliverables (discussed over 8 hours of meetings already),due after the long weekend, you don't take the person's remaining available working hours to discuss an event 6 months away. It's a decision that pretty much condemns me to working over the long weekend.
Once I get some important milestones done for OSS and ODF in Malaysia in June, I'm planing to move on. There are exciting things to work on at Inigo and I'm looking forward to start doing UN consulting work again. I'll also have time with family again.
Nobody when they're dying ever wished they had spent more time at work

Huge property launches seem to be getting fewer and fewer these days, maybe its a sign of the market satuaration or the impending economic plateau, but i guess it makes us look forward to each one even more.
In recent weeks, Papillon had their soft launch, and we had the opportunity to view it. First the location - it’s situated on a 4.5 acre piece of land in Taman Desa, between the existing double storey link homes and Old Klang Road. Previously, there were 8 old bungalows, and apparently, some of our friends who lived around this area while they were growing up have fond memories of playing in the green area. Well, now, like most green areas we hold in our memories, they’re going to turn it into a luxury condo.
Driving around Taman Desa, it’s a pretty developed area with a good mix of office buildings, commercial area, and landed homes which currently fetch good returns for the owners in terms of both rentals and resale value (a friend of ours just bought a unit there). Most of the new condos are situated along Old Klang Road (Jalan Kelang Lama) like Saville Residence, so Papillon has the distinction of being one of the few luxury condos in this vicinity.
The land is sizable to build a large condominium, but they’ve opted for a better configuration of medium rise low density. The land is located on a slope facing KL, so perhaps that, too, played a part in deciding the density of the project. At the show gallery, which is situated right in the middle of the project site, they’ve a viewing deck on the roof for you to appreciate the view. We managed to snap some photos while we were there:
Even on the third floor level you can see KLCC, right next to KL Tower in the second and third picture.
There are two similar blocks, both enclosing the common facilities at the podium level. Each level has 8 units, arrange in 4 pairs of semi-D like layout. We definitely can see the merits of this design - they’ve taken full advantage of the space available so that each unit has only one neighbour, so thereby maximizing the window space and giving each unit more privacy.
There are only 3 main types of unit designs available, the standard unit 1,712sq.ft. and 1,784sq.ft. (the latter is about one foot wider in total width) and then there is the smaller (but apparently popular) unit at 1,322sq.ft. and the largest at 2,059sq.ft. It should be noted that all the units have pretty much the same design, the difference is derived mainly from the unit total width. Units come with 2+1, 3+1 or 4+1 rooms, and all rooms have ensuite bathrooms for an added convenience.
As for facilities, they have the usual swimming pool, gymnasium, playground, three tier security, etc.
Price is stiff to say the least. Cheapest unit cost almost RM490,ooo, and the dearest comes close to RM1.8mil. The price per square foot is about RM370psf for the units facing PJ, and for the KL view, you are stumping about RM420psf. It is about the price of Mont’Kiara condos. But the difference here is that there are no smaller or studio units, the smallest unit, as mentioned earlier is at a rather large 1,322sq.ft., hence pumping up the minimum entry price. For the standard 1712 unit at a low level, you’ll be paying an average of about RM800k for the unit.
There are a few reasons that we can identify why the developers feel the pricing is justified. Firstly, its the location and the view. There aren’t any condos of this stature around here, and its situated away from the perpetually busy Old Klang Road. Secondly, the price of real estate, especially the landed homes around here are sky high, almost double to triple of what you’d pay for a condo here. For more than that, this piece of land is also freehold, giving that slight edge over those projects below that are on leasehold land.
We admit that we were quite impressed with the project, but a reality check settled in when we had to do a double take when we saw the price. But we’re thinking the location alone will carry the sales of the project, and also the low density factor of the development (only 225 units) helps a lot.
The project is jointly developed by TNB and Zeus, a subsidiary of Peter’s Group. This is the latter first major project, while TNB has a few high profile projects underway in the city.

Sigmund Freud called it the death instinct, which refers to detrimental and destructive behavior. But sometimes, bad things happen beyond our control. Pastors say it’s the devil working to destroy God’s people, some say it’s ancestral sin! I subscribe to a belief, that bad things happen to build our character and teach us important lessons.
But two natural disasters in a month overwhelms, not only for victims whose homes were wrecked, but the heart of bystanders like me. Already, prices are skyrocketing. Political injustice bites, war and famine crying for relief. Now we have earthquakes and Cyclones too. Global Warming.
God must be reminding us, His self-absorbed children, consumed with pleasures of the flesh, with pop culture, and worldly pleasures. Look, He said, My people are in pain. Can you still chew a hamburger, remain sitting by and watch?
I am overwhelmed with grief, and desire to call for change.
UPDATED VERSION. Dorothy Dix (November 18, 1861 – December 16, 1951), Malaysian style?
What makes the one-and-a-half hour daily Oral Q&A session interesting is that after the pre-sent question by the MP is answered orally, supplementary questions -- to a maximum of three -- are usually allocated to each question. The ministers or their deputies usually have to answer the supplementary questions off the cuff and on-the-fly.
This is the tough part for the ministers as, unlike the original question which gave the ministry staff sufficient notice to prepare for the answer, supplementary questions are "ambush" by nature and they are asked on the spot by MPs who are chosen at random by the speaker. An ill-prepared minister will be grilled and embarrassed in full blast. The Hansard had had sufficient casualties on this.
However, when Amirsham A Aziz, former Maybank chief and currently Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, answered the supplementary question by the SIL by reading off a 2-page prepared text, head bowed and seemingly oblivious to his surrounding, the House screamed of a "planted question and a prepared answer". Or a planted question with a crony's answer.
"It’s really our equivalent to Paula Abdul commenting on a song that had yet to be sung," said Joan Lau in Malaysian Insider, describing how the minister was "caught out doing something stupid".
"You see, ministers and their deputies are not supposed to know beforehand what a supplementary question will be," she added.
Malaysiakini has the whole story. Some say the Parliament House is now a 4th Floor, and a non-American, non-Australian Dorothy Dixer had reared her head.

Samsung 15 inch Blue Phase LCD panel above
In its bid to provide consumers with more natural screen action, Samsung has announced the world’s first Blue Phase technology that moves at 240Hz speed. Faster speeds means faster action on screens and less flicker to the human eyes. Samsung says the design of the Blue Phase panel is called extremely cost efficient and that the Blue Phase panels don’t require liquid crystal alignment layers like today’s most widely used LCD modes.
Samsung also says that the Blue Phase panels will resist bruising, which occurs when pressure on the screen causes an area of impaired brightness compared to the majority of the screen.
You may have notice that every single computer maker is going towards green. They are actually rating each computer to see which is greener (energy efficient, recyclable parts and toxicity of computer). An interesting article about “Where can I find a Green Computer?” shows a list of desktop and notebook which are greener.
Then I found this video about MacBook Air
If you can’t resist buying a MacBook Air, you should buy the MacBook Air Green Edition.
There is tones of video and things you could do to make this world a greener world at Do the Green Thing.
Looks like a new sibling to the existing Asus Eee PC 900 is coming soon. The Asus Eee PC 901 may have the same specs as the 900 and the difference is only a new row of buttons between the keyboard and battery, along with a power plug on the left side.
Nothing much is different from the 900, but apparently Asus has thrown in a new row of buttons between the keyboard and battery, along with a power plug on the left side.Guess the measurements were not tampered with this time. I wonder if the innards will be different.

The sentence was so uncanny that Clinton-Lewinski immediately came to mind.
'I didn't have sex with that woman' is quite a memorable line in years to come.
So, we have Anifah Aman, the younger brother of Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman, as deputy prime minister under Pakatan Rakyat?
The man was quoted as saying in theSun: Anifah: Once the defections start, there's no stopping. He did not discount himself from moving house, (caveat) "if it is in the best interest of the people".
Apparently, the lure of the 20% oil royalty offer by Pakatan Rakyat, deliverable or not, is a big carrot for the rabbits.
Meanwhile, horse-trading continues though Abdullah Badawi has found a temporary respite, at least for now.
Fancy putting a generous Australian in your mouth?

It cums with the chef's "special sauce", you know?

“Daddy, can you please find my bottle?”
Go find it yourself, why you always simply place your bottle? See? Now you can’t find it.”
“Daddy, can you please help me fill up my bottle?”

The other day I was having lunch alone. A girl slipped and fell between the tables.
Everyone on the floor turned their head. From the far corner of the shop, I can hear tiny laughters echoing the air. The girl blushed, blaming herself for her clumsiness. Slowly, she picked up everything she dropped.
Last month my head office had to retrench some staff due to specific reasons.
I wasn’t there, since i’m not stationed at the head office, but i figure the immediate superior or the HR manager would probably call the poor guy into the office and say, “i think you better sit down first…” or “You know the company’s not been doing well recently…”
You KNOW it’s not going to be good news when your boss starts with those lines.
Or when your girlfriend starts with “I think we need to talk…”
Or when the headmasters starts off with “it has come to my attention that…”
Or when the doctor tells you “How is your insurance plan?”
Or when my wife says to my daughter “tell daddy what happened in school today”.
Nope. it’s never good news. Because if it was good news, they tell you straightaway, without all this small talk.
Well i suppose it’s a lot better than my doctor saying, “If I were you, I wouldn’t start watching any new miniseries on TV, get my drift? Heheh…”
***
Well, it wasn’t all bad news, my colleague got a decent severance package from the retrenchment. Nothing helps soothes the bad news like moolah. Lots of it.
I should blog more, lest readers forget my style of writing. Being deaf has aided me in finding a unique identity without being influenced as much as hearing people would be. Many were perplexed when they heard me giving speeches. They wondered how a Deaf person could speak so well.
I believe the reason is multi-faceted. For one, I am naturally an introverted person. Most of my days are spent thinking aloud. The editor in me works round the clock, composing one piece after another. Many of which never expressed in reality. I rather stay home like that, than bringing my editor to shopping malls where it wouldn’t rest anyway.
I have a habit of shutting out the world and rest in solitude. This was probably learned during my years as a Ballet dancer. I remember the annual concerts at PJ Civic Hall. Not counting pre-school, my first staged dance happened on my 7th or 8th year, or grade 1 in Ballet. Standing on center stage, under the heat of spotlights, made me feel small. Despite not being able to see the audience, I knew that dark space meant I was placed under the microscope. But I had to dance, I must work it out. So gradually, I became less fearful and more capable of shutting out the world, dancing for myself.
When speaking to a crowd these days, I speak like I speak to the editor in me. I do expect a response, a positive one in fact. But the response is often an imaginary voice since I can‘t hear well. And that’s how I appear cheerful on stage.
It’s easier to be congruent when you’re deaf like me.
It's the curse of the human race, that we're all born to die and in the midst of dying, we strive like mad cows in order to make our mark in the universe while we live.
In all communities, everyone wants to be special. In religious communities, Christian communities in particular, almost everyone wants to be part of a living church (as if there is a such as thing as a dead church, really). Everyone wants to be part of a 'revival' movement, its as if its an important fraternity to belong to.
I despair sometimes, because its hard to find the simple Christian who is satisfied with being merely just another one of His followers.
Nothing is as extraordinary as the wish to be ordinary, someone once said. I think this applies everywhere, even in church.
