Bercakap kepada lebih 500 warga Sabah, Sarawak dan Labuan yang memeriahkan Pesta Borneo di Kompleks Sukan PKNS Petaling Jaya semalam, Anwar berkata keyakinan beliau diuja oleh sokongan yang ditunjukkan masyarakat setempat semasa melawat Limbang dan Lawas di Sarawak minggu lalu.

Trend semasa di Sabah dan Sarawak menunjukkan rakyat Malaysia Timur mendahagakan perubahan selepas hak mereka diabaikan sejak 53 tahun lalu.

“Kita telah merdeka selama 50 tahun dan yang akan tentukan perubahan untuk keadilan, hak asasi, hormat budaya, untuk hormat agama, untuk hormat sesama manusia yang akan tentukan Sabah dan Sarawak” kata Anwar.

Anwar menegaskan anak- anak generasi muda Sabah dan Sarawak harus ada kesedaran berpolitik dan mendesak pemerintah mengagihkan harta kekayaan negara secara saksama.

Menurut Anwar lagi, yang akan tentukan misi dan masa depan kita adalah anak-anak muda Malaysia dan ini termasuklah dari sabah dan Sarawak

“Kita lawan bukan kerana kita dendam. Kita lawan bukan nak rompak tanah orang, kita lawan nak pertahan tanah kita sendiri. Kita bukan tuntut hak orang. Kita bagi tahu orang diatas. Jangan rompak hak rakyat kita” kata Anwar.

Disamping meraikan ikatan mereka, program ini juga bertujuan bagi menubuhkan satu jawatankuasa dan komuniti bagi membantu penduduk Sabah dan Sarawak yang dijumpai mengemis, merempat dan hidup miskin di Lembah Kelang dan juga seluruh Semenanjung Malaysia.

Realiti sebenar yang berlaku kini memperlihatkan ramai rakyat yang hidup susah, tertindas, tertipu dan gagal mendapat pekerjaan apabila tiba di Semenanjung Malaysia. Malah, ada yang terpaksa melacurkan diri di bandar-bandar utama Semenanjung demi menyambung kelangsungan hidup.

Rakyat Sabah Sarawak merantau mencari pekerjaan akibat daripada kemunduran taraf ekonomi mendorong rakyat Sabah Sarawak untuk berhijrah ke Semenanjung. Mereka yang ditemui melahirkan rasa kesal dengan janji-janji kerajaan negeri Sabah dan Sarawak di bawah Umno-BN.

Memandangkan bilangan penduduk sabah dan sarawak yang tertumpu di lembah Klang semakin meningkat, pelbagai kesukaran yang mereka hadapi namun mereka tidak punya ruang untuk mengadu segala masalah yang dihadapi.

Turut dilaporkan di ibu kota, ramai pengemis dari Sabah yang gagal memperolehi wang yang cukup untuk pulang semula ke Sabah dilihat mengemis dan mencari makanan lebihan di belakang restoran-restoran seperti kedai mamak, KFC dan McDonalds.

Dengan pengisian sukaneka, tarian kebudayaan dan nyanyian live band sedikit sebanyak menyuntik semangat dan mengubat kerinduan kepada rakyat sabah sarawak.

Majlis tersebut dirasmikan oleh Exco Kerajaan Selangor, Elizabeth Wong.

I wonder if most people realize that government hospitals in Malaysia don’t allow their patients to keep their own MRI films which makes seeking a second opinion very hard for the patient. If the attending doctor does not completely disclose results to the patient when she asks, there is little that she can do.

I was very fortunate to have the assistance of KLGH’s Chief Neurosurgeon Mr. Saffari Bin Haspani in 2004 who allowed me to ’borrow’ my own brain MRIs, mail them to Dr. Friedman in the U.S. and only return the films after my surgery at the end of the year. Mr. Saffari readily admitted that he couldn’t remove the residuals of my right-sided Acoustic Neuroma and supported my initiative of going to the U.S.

But not every neurosurgeon in public service is as open-minded as Mr. Saffari.

I hope to see and thank him personally someday.

If we want to have control over our healthcare, it may be wiser to pay more and have our MRI done at private hospitals.

Disclaimer: This post contains massive amounts of geekery which non-geeks or geek wannabe's may not understand or care for. Do proceed if your sense of curiosity for all things new outweighs your natural instinct for general ignorance.

After years of procrastinating, I've finally taken around to mess with with VirtualBox over the weekend. I'm both a Windows and a Linux user, I usually have to resort to using 2 separate computers at the same time, or at least dual boot my main rig whenever I want to use one operating system or another. For those uninitiated, virtual machine programs like Virtualbox allow for people to run 2 operating systems on a single computer at the same time. They do this by running another operating system within an operating system like you do a program.

I'm pretty sure the first and only thing that was going through my mind over the course of figuring out how it all works was "Why didn't I do this before?". Then I was gently reminded of the fact that VM programs have gotten easier over the years. I was pretty sure several years ago, you had to spend a day or so trying to configure all the settings so that your virtual OS could run properly within your system. Nowadays all I had to do was run an inbuilt configuration system and everything was set to how it should be without me running around my room with arms flailing in the air. The second and probably more important reason at this point was the fact I now own a pretty powerful gaming rig, and two 22′ wide screen monitors. Switching back and forth between Windows and Linux at the same time is as troublesome as just turning my head. I'm pretty sure I can live with that very well.

So now that I know how to work a virtual machine, what can I do with it? For starters I can run OS specific programs without having to shut down all my work and reboot into the other system or the trouble of cluttering up my workspace with another computer. I can run everything on one system, one keyboard and one mouse. Then again, what I've actually done is used Ubuntu to test run Windows based programs on Wine. I know it's like one of those pointless double negatives, but hey I'm still exploring the limits of what I can do with it. I'm pretty sure I'll come up with some geeky project somewhere down the line to put my virtual Linux to good use. Plus, I'm not really spending any money getting this to work. It's a free technical exercise which is always a good thing for a geek.

The real goal however and the reason why I entitled my post this way rather than "My weekend getting to know VM intimately without having to buy it dinner" is the idea that sooner or later I'm going to have to build a prison to house the greatest evil that has graced computers in the past few years – OSX. For now, we'll skip the lengthy bits where I explain my hatred for all things Apple and go to the reasons why I'm seriously considering this crazy plan that has a few people I know googly-eyed in abject horror.

First of all, seeing that Apple has been the trojan horse for the anti-geek counter culture, it helps to know what the enemy is capable of doing and how we can use it to actually create more geeks. Theoretically, I know what Macs are capable of doing, but I do need to put it to practice. It's nice to one day say "Sure Macs can/can't do that, but let me show you another way of doing it for cheaper, better and faster."

The second reason is that I'm a geek and I can't quite call myself that until I'm able to have working mastery in the three main operating systems that grace the PC market. It's just one of those things you have to put aside some (but not all) personal prejudices aside just to make yourself a better person. Again, while in theory I know enough about Macs to make me an OSX kung fu master, it's still like saying I can beat a hallway full of trained, armed guards because I've watched The Matrix over 200 times. Reality just doesn't work that way.

Lastly, my sense of curiosity has gotten the better of me. While Windows and Linux systems can do everything OSX can do, there is that one program I'm really itching to try called Scrivener. Basically it looks like a novel writing program that's on steroids and gone through very good plastic surgery. A flattering image I know, but that's really the only real selfish reason why I would want to use a Mac because they don't build the damn thing for any other operating system.

So there we have it, the grand goal, the master plan. To house the corrupting scourge of the geek world in my system without it causing havoc. I'm pretty sure at one point I'm going to have to custom build a cage that has several wards on it. Maybe a pentagram inside 3 runic circles to protect against physical and spiritual afflictions. Either way, it's going to be a tricky task seeing that OSX is the only OS that doesn't seem to have a pre-built customisation program that makes life easier to run it outside of its walled garden; but hey, elbow grease and techno-supernatural charms are what I live for.

Of course, at the end of the day it'll have to boil down to, would I really fork out more money just to test the things because I want to? Money is a luxury for a geek, not a prerequisite. It's one of those rules that have been lost in time due to the commercialised onslaught on the market. If I can live with it for a while, I would at least until I have extra bucks to spend on a hobby and to pay the Melissa tax. After all, never be willing to spend money on pretty things unless you have money to spend it on your partner who should be the prettiest thing in your life regardless of all subjectivity on the matter. That, I would say is the wisest thing I can do about now and the best reason to hold back experimenting with the hell dimension for a few more years.

Who said I'm not getting smarter with age?

The Cold War ended in 1989 with the fall of the Berlin Wall. It was not surprising then when the long undeclared war between the Malaysian government and the Communist Party of Malaya also ended with the Hatyai Peace Accord in the same year. However, 21 years later, the Royal Malaysian Police still operates as if the nation is still at war.

The departure of Tan Sri Musa Hassan and the transition to Tan Sri Ismail Omar will not change anything unless the police revisits its original raison d’état and starts afresh with the new missions suggested by the Dzaiddin Royal Commission in 2005, namely, to fight crime, to uphold integrity, and to comply with human rights principles.

The Royal Malaysian Police’s role in curtailing the communists during the Cold War is internationally recognised, and continues to be cited among security experts in the United States in their discussion on Iraq and Afghanistan as an example of a successful multi-pronged anti-insurgency campaign.

The Malayan Emergency, from 1948 to 1960, was effectively an intensive civil war, especially in the first five years, but not declared as such by the British government to prevent insurance companies in London from inflating prices, which would inevitably jeopardise the profitability of British planters and other interests in Malaya.

Co-ordinated civilian leadership, intelligence and psychological warfare were central to the campaign as the British administration decided at the onset that the war was political in nature and not merely a military operation.

The police was tasked to be the lead agency with a single command chain nationwide and a force expanded many folds while the Malayan national military was only formally set up in 1956 in anticipation of independence.

The Royal Malaysian Police that we know today is the product of such a historical situation. It is a unique institution vis-à-vis police bodies around the world. Many developing countries have strong armed forces with a single national command chain while the police are often miniature by comparison, and on some occasion, part of the military establishment. For instance, the police was only separated from the Indonesian military just a decade ago. In some other countries, such as Australia or the United States, the police are localised forces governed by state or even county authorities.

Not only does the Royal Malaysian Police have a single national command chain, it was a larger force than the Armed Forces until the 1980s, which made it unusually powerful vis-à-vis its counterparts elsewhere. The General Operations Force (previously known as Field Force), the paramilitary unit of the Royal Malaysian Police, was at the forefront of combating the communists, with the military playing the supporting role.

As intelligence and psychological warfare were identified as the core success factors in the war, the Special Branch was arguably the nucleus of the police, and until the late 1970s employed more personnel than the Criminal Investigation Department.

Today, the police’s budget for 2010 is RM4.5 billion and a budgeted personnel strength of 122,655 for 2010. The actual strength is 107,455 as of December 31, 2009, according to a reply by the Home Minister to my question in Parliament.

Malaysia’s crime index exceeded the 100,000 cases in 1997 and 200,000 cases in 2007. While economic crisis causes the spike of crime initially, police inertia exacerbated a sense of impunity. During his tenure as IGP, whenever responding to media uproar about crime, Tan Sri Musa Hassan and, to a lesser extent, the government, has rehashed the oft-repeated mantra about the need for another 60,000 police personnel to fight crime.

But it is really not about having more policemen. The Interpol sets the optimal police-population ratio at 1:250. If every single Malaysian policeman is deployed to fight crime, the ratio is 1:270, which is not far off from Interpol’s optimal ratio.

It is a question of priority.

The General Operations Force comprises 12,746 while the Special Branch has 7,643 officers and personnel. By comparison, the Criminal Investigation Department, with the insurmountable challenge of solving escalating crime, has a strength of 8,449 officers and personnel.

It was interesting to note that both CID and Special Branch had around 6,000 officers each in 2005. The increase of number of police personnel without changing the philosophy and objectives will only see the distribution of new recruits continue as before.

Another 36,669 personnel are in the management department while 10,788 in the logistics department. The Dzaiddin Royal Commission identified in 2005 that 30 per cent of the force were desk bound and their positions can be easily filled by civilians, thus allowing the police to redeploy at least 30,000 trained police onto the streets. This was only taken up this year by the government in a piece-meal fashion where 6,751 desk job bound officers were redeployed onto the streets with 3,557 civilians filling the gap.

The Royal Malaysian Police must get its priority right. But to answer the question of priority, it must bid farewell to its Cold War mentality. For instance, it was even stated in the 2010 Budget that one of the seven key activities of the police is “to safeguard the security of the nation by gathering intelligence through secret and open means on communist, subversive and extremist elements and (shielding the nation) from intelligence and spying of local and foreign threats.”

Two decades after the Hatyai Accord, it is comical to target the communists, even more so in view of Umno’s recent exchange partnership with the Chinese Communist Party.

A change of IGP will not change the police in any way unless the police relinquish its political roles from the time of the Cold War and focus only on fighting crime to make Malaysia safe.

And now he is already 2 months old. And I am feeling old already. LOL :D Taking care of him is not easy at all. So now little Jordan has a new toy. It is a traditional hand drum bought for him by his Ah Kong. This traditional hand drum has been a popular toy for kids since ancient times. I guess my daddy wants his grandson to experience this old toy that he used to play with? How to play this traditional hand drum? Well all I need to do is to spin the handle back and forth and the 2 corded beads will hit the skin of the drum much to the delight of our little Jordan. Ha :D

Jordan is simply mermerized by his new toy. :)

Indeed my little Jordan seems to like this new toy of his. Perhaps it is still very new to him? Or is it because of all the noise that this drum is making? Sometimes when little Jordan is crying, he will keep quiet and listen to the beatings of the drum the moment we spun it. Hmm...sounds like this is a good toy to keep our little Jordan in his good behaviour huh! So have you played with this little hand drum before? :)

Well, not really. Nowadays, even term life insurance quotes online is available. There are a lot more opportunity as long as the idea works.

While we did thought about selling products online instead of selling services online. Servicing is just taking too much time, don’t they? Selling product on the other hand, is more fixed on the requirement and all.

Currently I am reading a book, a title that catched my eyes while I was in Popular bookstore a week back. It called “What Customers Really Want: Bridging the Gap Between What Your Company Offers and What Your Clients Crave“

Now that is what I am reading and trying to digust whatever is in there.

Though I can’t deny that having an online social networking helps, but this book here, wrote some “others” stuff that we totally forgotten, and that is not even on socialing with customer.

Dear Editors,

I am writing to complain about Joe Fernandez’s report “S’wak PKR tells Anwar to settle Sabah crisis swiftly” on 3 September where he has unfairly and without justification exaggerated the impact of the case of the 12 Sabahans’ suspension for registering Parti Cinta Sabah on Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in Sarawak..

In the report, he has misquoted Baru Bian, PKR Sarawak Chief several times (misquoted sections are underlined below).

“We told Anwar frankly that the issue of the 12 Sabah PKR leaders facing disciplinary action is affecting morale and preparation in Sarawak,” said state PKR chief Baru Bian (right). “He must be bold and decisive. This issue had been settled. Suddenly, it flared up again and caught us all by surprise.”

“These are small places and yet the turnout was something that Anwar himself did not expect,” he said.

“When asked about the chances (for the opposition coalition) in Sarawak, (Anwar) told them that he was an incurable optimist,” he said.

“PKR national vice-president Jeffrey Kitingan (left) from Sabah has been instrumental in building up the party in Sarawak,” he said.

He completely agreed with Chua Jui Meng, who accompanied Anwar (right), that “there should be no witch-hunt as agreed under the Dec 13 formula”.

“According to Anwar, some new evidence had surfaced that necessitated the taking of the pending disciplinary action against the Sabah 12,” said Bian. “He doesn’t see the new evidence as covered by the peace plan.”

“Anwar stressed on the new evidence and thinks that the disciplinary process should have been allowed to run its course,” said Bian, who is a practising lawyer.

“Instead, there was a pre-emptive rush to judgment on the appeal process. Some media reported that only three leaders would be suspended and the others let off with warning letters.”

“The final verdict, whatever its form, cannot logically be announced before the appeal process had been completed,” he said.

Anwar was also anxious to assure the gathering in Kuching that he “was not anti-Christian as painted by some of the media in the wake of the disciplinary action against the promoters of PCS”.

“We must give Anwar the benefit of the doubt in the conduct of the disciplinary and appeal process,” said Bian.

“It shouldn’t be long before we can bring this unfortunate episode to a close.”

Being a party man, he said, he “draws a firm line against washing dirty linen in public”.

We find the reporting totally unacceptable and done in mala fide as there seemed to be an agenda to paint PKR and especially Anwar in a bad light and as an anti-Christian.

We reiterate that the 12 Sabahans were suspended because they registered a new party – an act which is a serious breach of party rules and has nothing to do with the fact that some of them are Christians or Kadazan Dusuns. Baru Bian was of course dismayed over the report and has written to Steven Gan on this issue. We also reproduce Baru Bian’s sms to Joe Fernandez over the recent article:

Nor is this the first time that Joe Fernandez has written in such a manner on PKR and Anwar. In fact, this seemed to be a constant recurrence as can be seen in the following articles (there are more) which also contain similar flaws, misquotations and negative slants.

“3 Sabah PKR leaders suspended, 9 warned”, August 30, 2010

This was not even a decision taken at the PKR Central Committee Meeting. Instead, the decision was to accept the recommendation of the disciplinary committee to suspend the 12 – to take effect from 4 January 2010 till 3 January 2011. The Party has also indicated that they can appeal on the decision and the appeal will heard as soon as possible so that those who have been nominated may be able to participate in the party elections. This is contrary to what has been reported.

The whole story claiming that Anwar was snubbed due to the Party action against the 12 Sabahans was completely untrue and based on unkind interpretations of what actually happened e.g. he was said to not received any visitors from the time he checked into the hotel till the time he went to the state council meeting when in fact he only had an hour to rest before going to the said meeting; that there was a low turnout of 300 people when in fact the hall in the hotel was packed; and the assumption that the ceramah in Sepanggar was cancelled as a reaction to the suspension when in fact, it was cancelled due to the inability to obtain a police permit. Further the whole article was littered with very negative phrases which was not justifiable on the facts, such as “put up with the indignity”, “sheepishly”, “mock politeness”, “console Anwar”, “snub on Anwar” etc.

“Jeffrey tells Anwar to stay away from Sabah”, August 27, 2010

The sms from Jeffery to Anwar was taken out of context and misrepresented as a whole to give the impression that Jeffrey told Anwar to stay away from Sabah and that he would not be welcomed at the moment. This is misleading as the sms from Jeffrey merely advised Anwar to reconsider the visit and it was not a warning or a strong message as portrayed. Furthermore, the visit was scheduled by the entire Sabah PKR leadership and Jeffrey’s sms was not a collective decision.

Whilst we respect and appreciate the work of Malaysiakini that has contributed to independent journalism, freedom of the press and information, we unfortunately have to reject the type of journalism that is practiced by Joe Fernandez. We have thus instructed our PKR leaders not to deal with him anymore and we would appreciate if you could assign other journalists to cover PKR issues.

Once again, we are disappointed that Malaysiakini seems to have fallen below the standards required when it comes to reporting on PKR. We sincerely hope that Malaysiakini does not fall into the ongoing trend that have affected several online media and blogs that thrive on exaggeration or creating PKR scandals when there is none, and quoting unnamed or insider sources when party leaders are available for comments or to provide alternative explanations.

The list of 10th Malaysia Plan projects will be revealed after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak tables the 2011 budget next month, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said today.

However, only projects for implementation in 2011 and 2012 of the five-year plan (2011-2015) would be announced, he added.

“We will announce the list for every two years and not for the whole five years as was done previously,” he told reporters when asked to comment on a statement by Bukit Bendera Member of Parliament Liew Chin Tong that the 10MP projects had yet to be announced when they should have been revealed last month.

There was no delay in the announcement as claimed, Nor Mohamed said after presenting Aidilfitri aid in his Tasek Gelugor parliamentary constituency.

Najib had said when tabling the 10MP in June that programmes and projects would be implemented on a rolling plan basis, with the allocation for programmes and projects provided on a two-year basis beginning 2011-2012.

He had said that this allowed commitment to be made based on the financial position of the government and provided flexibility to respond to new priorities and changes in the global and domestic economic environment.

TheGadget: Craigslist Adult Services Blocked in U.S.

If you live in the United States and you use the Craigslist Adult Services listings, you are out of luck. As first reported on Techcrunch, the section has now been replaced with the word “censored” on their U.S.-based sites.

Last week Craigslist received a letter from 18 state attorneys general demanding they shut down the adult services section. The letter cited the two girls who said they were trafficked for sex through the website. Police also routinely conduct prostitution stings through the listings and the site has come under heavy criticism from various groups for being used to advertise prostitution with underage girls.

Though it’s obviously a good idea to cut down on human sex trafficking, the censoring is a big hit to Craigslist.

The adult services section reportedly accounts for 30 percent of Craigslist’s overall revenue. That’s $36.6 million out of $122 million projected for 2010. Ouch!

Liew Chin Tong: Re-examining development of cities

It was said that “the 19th century was a century of empires; the 20th century was a century of nation states. The 21st century will be a century of cities.” Economic growth is increasingly driven less by capital and more by the density and availability of talents. Cities that possess the right physical, cultural, economic and social conditions would become a magnet for talent.

Are our cities ready for such eminence? Probably not. There is a need to re-examine our ideas about central-local relations and the urban-rural divide to work out a new set of priorities for the future of our cities.

Before independence, due to the decentralised nature of the governing structure involving the supposedly independent Malay states, Malaya was effectively a multi-city model in which Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Ipoh and Johor Bharu were of relatively equal strengths. Indeed, Kota Bharu, with its 50,000 inhabitants in 1900, was just marginally smaller than Kuala Lumpur in terms of population size.

Merdeka brought forth a powerful central government with deep pockets. Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, went on a building spree to define the nation in Kuala Lumpur. Icons and monuments built during this period include Merdeka Stadium, National Stadium, Subang Airport, National Mosque, National Monument, Parliament House, National Museum and the University of Malaya.

The government’s revenue increased further in the 1970s and 1980s with the expansion of the oil and gas sector and a more diversified economy. Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysia’s fourth Prime Minister, went on not only to vastly improve the country’s infrastructure but also replace Tunku’s monuments in Kuala Lumpur by building a new capital in Putrajaya in the 1990s. Today, the federal government pays Putrajaya Holdings RM1 billion annually as rental for the offices in Putrajaya. RM1 billion is 0.5% of the nearly RM200 billion-federal budget, not to mention other municipal and maintenance costs. Grass-cutting alone costs the country RM18 million a year.

Other cities lost their lustre as state and local governments have little resources at their disposal as Malaysia continues to centralise. The combined state budgets were around 25% of the federal budget in 1990 but it dropped to merely 9% in 2009. Transportation — public transport, ports, airports and highways — arguably the most important enabler of any city, is very much a federal matter. Essential services like sewerage, public cleansing and solid waste, as well as water, are being centralised one way or the other in recent years.

Further, outside Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, the ethos is to devote resources to develop the rural sector. The New Economic Model (NEM), prepared by the National Economic Advisory Council, proposes to replace the current approach of “dispersing economic activities across states to spread the benefits of development” to one that builds clusters and corridors to create “concentration of economic activities for economies of scale and better provision of supporting services.”

However, many are still of the view that Malaysia is a rural nation, or at least most Malays are living in the kampung. Utusan Malaysia on Aug 30 carried an article by a Zainal Kling reiterating that cities are mostly inhabited by the Chinese and called on the government to help the Malays and bumiputera whom he considered are still rural and agricultural based.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin recently announced that the government will introduce a Kampong New Economic Model, which I suspect in some ways will champion measures that contradict NEM’s key idea of urban agglomeration and density.

In the 2010 budget, RM4.6 billion is allocated for the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry while RM7.2 billion is for the Rural and Regional Development Ministry. Despite identifying “urban well-being” as a new concern for the government that is added to the portfolio of Federal Territories Ministry, the amount allocated is meagre, not even 0.5% of the combined sum to the two rural ministries.

Today, the fact is that Malaysia is a highly urbanised nation. Sixty-five percent of the population lives in urban areas. For the peninsula, the figure is higher at 70%. The overall figure was just 35% in 1980. The draft Second National Physical Plan anticipates that the national urbanisation rate will reach 75% in 2020. Malay urban population is estimated at slightly less than 60%. The ethnic Malay population exceeded that of ethnic Chinese in Kuala Lumpur in 2000, a good 10 years ago.

In fact, urban Malays, whose existence has yet to register on the minds of many Malay leaders and whose livelihoods and welfare are still not well taken care of, is the most potent political force in the future political contestation.

Why are such social realities eluding our government leaders? It is possible that the governing mode in this country means that doing more of the same is the safest option for politicians and bureaucrats. But it is worth mentioning that while 65% of the population lives in urban areas; 65% of parliamentary seats are rural. It is also interesting to note that contracts for road construction and other rural infrastructure is the key source of political largesse even in the US.

Great liveable and sustainable cities hold the key for Malaysia to leapfrog into the next phase in the rapidly changing world economies. But the various conditions of our cities such as transport connectivity, public safety, housing affordability, water quality and flood mitigation, are not at their best and need much improvement.

To move forward, we must first address the two glaring dichotomies, namely central-local relations and the urban-rural divide, that have held our cities back thus far.

Tekkaus: KFC Hot & Spicy Shrimp: Is It Good?

A few days ago, both my wife and I were itching to try KFC's latest hot & spicy shrimp. Well, we love to try out new food to see if it is really as good (visually) as KFC claims in their advertisement. I went to my favourite KFC which is just a "pebble" throw away from my home. The moment I set my foot into the premise, I was taken aback by the long queue. I looked at my wristwatch. "Ouh~it is almost time for buka puasa!" :) I happily lined up (I am a good citizen ok) and waited for my turn. :)

It was my turn and I ordered 5-piece-chicken (got & spicy only), my favourite Zinger Burger, Cheesy Wedges and of course the HOT & SPICY Shrimp! I paid RM30 for everything and immediately sped off. I was riding my Black Horsy and was in top gear (100KMph) as I want my family to be served with hot dinner. :) 5 minutes and I was back at home. Itadakimasu~:D

Let's see how the hot & Spic shrimp taste shall we?

*sniff! sniff!* Hmm...

Well, well...this hot & spicy shrimp is not too bad after all.

Still I love KFC Zinger Burger. It is really hot & spicy. :D

*Munch! Munch! Munch!* So was the Hot & Spicy shrimps delicious? IMHO, it is OK only. The hot & spicy shrimp is not as spicy as what I would have loved it to be. Besides the shrimps were way too small for me. Then again it is very crispy and fresh. :) So should you try it? You should...but only for once. And make sure it is served hot or else it will not be that palatable anymore. Of course Zinger Burger is yummy as usual. :D

Malaysia's most anticipated Proton Waja Lancer is finally here. Is this the most talked about Proton Waja 2 that the whole Malaysia is waiting for? Is this the elusive so-called second generation of Proton Waja which is based on the well-known Mitsubishi Lancer? I don't know but chances is that we Malaysians will get to see this Proton Waja Lancer very, very soon as it was spotted in Penang earlier last month (August 2010). Moreover TV3 also did some coverage about this new Waja 2 Lancer today (3rd September)! Hold your breath and keep waiting ok...

Proton Waja Lancer?

This Proton Waja Lancer is actually a replacement model to the old, won-out looking boxy Waja. It is about time that Proton come out with a new model for their Waja line up. Before we proceed to the real Waja 2, let's look at the ideal Proton Waja Lancer which was conceived by Theophiluschin. If I am not mistaken this conjured Waja Lancer is actually fusion of the current Mitsubishi Lancer with our Proton Waja and Proton Persona. That's why his creation retains the boxy feel of Waja and the elegant grill of Persona. And of course this Waja Lancer spots the unmistakable fierce front light of the Lancer.

It looks very boxy but...yet equally foxy right?

So what do you think about the Waja Lancer "built" by Theophiluschin? Very nifty right? Now...let's look at the REAL Proton Waja Lancer which was spotted by Fahmil. He noticed about this car and thought it was just another Lancer in the beginning...but the black tapes made it all too fishy for him. So he got off his car and happily snapped this "unwrapped" Proton Waja Lancer even though it was raining. Let's have a look shall we?

What say you about this purportedly REAL Proton Waja Lancer? It does have the curves of the sexy, irresistible Mitsubishi Lancer. The rear part of this Waja 2 looks exactly like the cocky backside Mitsubishi Lancer. The cool, glaring front lights look strikingly similar to those of Mitsubishi Lancer. Heck! Even the skirting are indistinguishable from those belong to Mitsubishi Lancer. In a nutshell...our Proton Waja 2 aka Proton Waja Lancer is actually a carbon copy of Mitsubishi Lancer only with the logo and badge changed? So this is just a Waja Rebadged Lancer? OMG! Can we not have a copycat? :(
